I had to watch this fram-by-frame after reading your input. I guess people in the industry have a trained eye.

The worst thing is having to watch parts of a movie a thousand times over on a few scenes, getting comments on a pixel here or there, a dot or a spec, or something. You go over fine details over and over, even though most folks won't notice it because it's literally gone in a second. Some directors obsess over stupid stuff, others look at the big picture and know where to spend time on stuff like effects and when it's "good enough"

My professional view:

-A lighting strike would blow out the camera sensor, it'll bloom and the contrast adjustment will kick in since the camera's on board exposure mode would be going WTF for a bit.
-No refection /interactive lighting on the camera strike [pause it on 0:01] the intersection would be lit up like a Christmas tree, you'd have flash highlights on that truck to the left, light poles, and the cars on the back ground.
-The fireball you see from the hit is applied with an additive process, it's translucent, real explosions/fireballs don't behave in this manner.
-The debris that fly up in the air, the black square and the white square disappears into thin air after a few frames.
-The smoke/dust isn't color graded to match the shot [everything is dark/cool colors, but the smoke/dust hit is warm brown colors
-Lighting strike is fairly pixelated.

Most of it seems like a canned effect from an app or from something like action essentials where you can copy and paste and set the start point for a pre made effect.

The basics are there, but the integration into the scene environment is the giveaway.

I have to hire guys to work on films so usually stuff like this is what we see from students...

Honestly the effect is fine given that it's probably a very small budget.

and if they'd hired me to do it, there would have been flames.... as I said before, the smoke from the wheels were "a nice touch" - the first clue that it was a setup is that the shot was centered... nothing surprising is ever centered on the screen.

So Kurt - as an attorney, I never watch Law and Order because.... well.... it's annoyingly fake - when is the last time you went to a movie and enjoyed the fantasy?

Ha ha, a long while. It takes the fantasy out of things because you can spot the flaws in a lot of work. It also makes you appreciate the good work.

If you love movies, the last thing you want to do is make them, it burns a lot of people out from enjoying them.

I did attorney-like stuff at work for a few years. Got all my education from Law and Order and Catch Me If You Can, coupled with a few stays at Holiday Inn Express.

NEver watched it for that reason. All movies/TV shows are like that though. Remember Swordfish? Had me facepalming through the whole movie. Only good part was Halle Berry's bewbers
