Just dag up some old story about making a Hummer Hybrid. Even do i hate all thous "Prius" folks I would love to get my hands on of the Hummer Hybrids. To bad that GM shot the Hummer down. If not, we could've have one.

Ummm, prob would not do so well fording thru the creeks that most of this forums members seem to enjoy so much.
It would cook the driver and float lots of fishies to the surface!
But it would be interesting none-the-less...

Well the electric motor doesn't need air intake. All what you have to do is to make it all sealed really well. With battery and wires it will be even easier to seal everything and make it water proof. With some ingenuity it is very possible.

...And Karma is just an pile of poop and for sure never was designed in mind to be underwater for long time.

It is possible, it's very expensive and heavy [100% duty cycle motors that are sealed are $$$$$].

It depends on the budget, Oshkosh defense is working hybrid electric diesel systems into their big trucks now luke the 3rd generation HEMTT, that thing is rolling on 8 or 10 52" tires and can go in deep water.

Hummech help built the zero south h1 that's hybrid electric, weighs a ton, it can go super fast [blows the doors off the gas/diesel trucks in his words] but its overweight.

The big issue is energy density with batteries, if they can get the density up and the weight & cost down they'll be more practical for heavier vehicles.


I'd be ok with a hybrid diesel electric in my H1.

I don't think that electric motor + little 4 cylinder engine will wight much more then, lets say, Alphas V8. But the batteries are do weight a ton. i think this is the biggest problem for modern electric cars. There should be some better solution to reuse the size and weight. It will cost a ton but will save you money down the road...
Another thing that caught my eye, is the location of the 3rd battery right behind the trailer hitch. And this thing is sticking out. Not really a good location if you go off-road.

We met them in Moab - I remember him telling a story of him trying to get up baby lions back - it just sat at the bottom and spun...lol, too much torque and not enough gearing. IIRC they got rid of the transfer case to save some weight, and they should have deleted the transmission instead.

That was a fantastic motor with some unique designs. But GM blew it there....
