Do our keys have transponder chips?

I am looking to make my own switchblade key (I have been down this road before, unsuccessfully due to lack of information) and I am curious if our keys have transponder chips in them.

If they don't, making a switchblade key should be relatively easy. If not...then not as easy. :)

Let me know...

Ok guys, so next question: Are all car key lengths essentially the same? I.E. could I have this key blade cut to fit the Hummer? And the fact that this key has a transponder chip in it...would that be a problem?

There are different sizes & according to thier compatibility chart it won't work w/ ours or the Colorado so i would keep looking. I've seen others in the past on ebay that said they would fit ours so keep digging.

Hi Guys, I'm new to Hummers and have just bought a 09 H3T.

I live in Qatar but don't suspect that anything should be any different over here than anywhere else.

I've bought a chipped blank from the dealer and got it cut.

It fits the ignition great and activates the ignition fine but will not start the motor.

If I put the original key in and start the truck then switch off and use the new one it will start fine but has the flashing red door & padlock symbol on the dash which indicates that the transponder chip isn't being detected, I can only assume that if I use the new key straight after taking the original one out it keeps the code for a few seconds thereby allowing the new key to start the truck.

I've had many cars and cloned the chips by doing a sequence of things with the keys to clone the chip to the car.

Does anyone know how it's done with the H3?

Unless you have a different ignition system than in the US, there's no transponder chip in the key and there's nothing to clone. My guess is that the key might not be an exact copy of the OEM key and/or you have a passlock issue.

My spare key is all metal with no place for a chip to be hidden and it starts my truck without any issues.
