While driving home on the 405 Thursday night, I saw a lot of lunatics on the freeway. I made up my mind to start driving the Hummer to work. Well, on my way home Friday night, traffic was worse. I got over into the right lane to get off early. Cars were moving slow, say around 15 MPH. Next thing I know, my head in bouncing off the headrest and I see this car to the left of me. Not really sure what happened but the carnage speaks for itself.

Apparently, there was a van to the left of me that the Honda hit as well.

Even dragged his mirror down his window after it broke off.

I lost my fuel door somewhere inside the Honda. I couldn't find it in the road anywhere.

I thought I was alright to drive home but I had to keep the steering wheel cranked hard to the right. I pulled off the road again to look closer. The impact of the Honda bent my left spring, causing the axle to shift forward a few inches.

I babied her back home. I need to take a day off next week and get Bessie in the shop. I think I will drive the streets to work for the rest of the year.

That sucks Craig. But doesn't look too bad. But the Mule Days doesn't look repairable lol. Once you get Bessie back we are going to have to put the pinstriping back on

LOL! Already planning on finding from brush to rake down the side. I am curious what the body shop is going to do.

They won't total it right? That's always concerns me...I feel like any excuse to get a hummer off the streets will be used.

I'm glad your ok and hope your back on the trails soon.

I would say its no where close to a total loss from the pics. Mostly cosmetic damage. But all the hard earned stripes and gouges in the bumper, depressing. Craig's just gotta earn them back
Holy cow! I am watching the news right now and saw two major car chases that happened in LA. This place is getting crazy(er).

All the freeways around here are screwed. I drive a lot less miles to work and still deal with a lot of idiots. Streets are the same. Almost hit three people in a 1/4 mile the other day that decided to pull out in front of me. One was really close. Chirped the tires trying to stop. I would have won though

I'd say you "won" that one. That honda is messed up pretty bad, yours isn't. Hey, have them put a thor or ARB rear bumper on it!

That sucks, I'm glad you're ok. I would rather have the kia get hit since it's getting harder to find parts for the H3. We just got into an accident right before thanksgiving. We drove our kia that day and were about stopped waiting to make a left when my wife screams and then we get hit from behind. The guy was doing about 50-55mph. The kia is totaled but we lived and just have the typical stiffness, headaches and back pain associated with such a collision. The Kia absorbed the hit and did it's job, I am impressed. I wonder if we would've been worse off in the hummer.

Yikes! I am glad you are okay!

I am glad it happened to the Hummer, to be honest. If it was the Kia, I would be sore and mad since the Soul only has 3000 miles on the odometer. The rear was starting to sag on the H3 so this is perfect time to get new ones.

When the Taco got totaled I would have rather been driving my 2. More than likely I wouldn't have felt it and would have been pushed into the car in front if me

Glad you are ok. I am still driving my 3 to work. Had someone merge onto the freeway then change three lanes to almost side swipe me this week.

Looking to get a commuter soon so I can just put fun miles on the hummer.

Took another pic showing the bent spring.

Waiting for the tow truck right now to take Bessie to the shop. I took a closer look and there will be one little spot of body damage to be fixed. Everything else will probably be replaced.

Glad your ok, definitely should not be a total, when I was rear ended, the repair bill came to $12,000 and the insurance did not even come close to totaling the truck, 90% was cosmetic, but parts were all pricey. That looks like a relatively easy fix..

I got the estimate back from the body shop last night. Seems I have about $7000 of work! Apparently, there was substantial damage to the rear. They are replacing the bumper, trailer hitch, left tail light, left outer and inner fenders, left rocker molding, fuel door and pocket, fuel tank and shield, left rear spring. I am paying to have the right spring replaced so the truck sits level.

A THORparts rear bumper is less $$ than a GM (I take insurance checks). I can get one out to you this afternoon.

Glad you're okay.

Thanks for the offer but I am going to keep it OEM for now. I may have problems convincing the insurance company to replace the OEM bumper with one that is not DOT certified. However, I may be making a purchase in the near future for the front. I would love to replace the front bumper but I really don't need a winch. Also, the front skid on my truck is kinda shot.
