Very unusual spot for a sink hole to open up. You can't tell me someone did not know 20 years ago that there was karst geology under this building and that wasn't taken into consideration when they (1) selected the site, and (2) designed the foundation, especially since its not that far away Mammoth Cave National Park. I guess mother nature is not a fan of the Corvette. Anyhow, someone had to decide back then that it would not be a problem. You can bet their insurance carrier is looking for ways to get out of this one. I bet that will be an impressive settlement claim.

The foundation under the Corvettes did not seem very substantial in the videos. Wonder who the geotech was on that deal?

Good thing for the Geo is they are most likely long past their limitation of liability period.

Likely. Wonder if any defect like a leaky water or storm line contributed to the erosion. The cavity looked huge. They had to have bored the site prior to making any recommendations. Seems like a fairly rapid deterioration based on natural events.

Yeah it's not a Hummer. But there were some rare cars lost there. The two from GM were probably the only ones that existed. Not to mention the millionth one. And so on.

That is a damn fine idea. The cars themselves might not be worth the money, but the marketing effort might give them reason to restore them.

funny you mention that - the museum director said she was planning on a "crash" or "destroyed" exhibit where they feature Corvettes that met an untimely demise (like raced and wrecked) in 2015 or 2016 - so actually, your idea was had by others - she said she hoped that some of these cars could be displayed then.

as for who cares, I do. I have a Corvette AND a Hummer, but do complain - it gives me someone laugh at and make snide comments about.

Gm announced they will attempt to restore the vettes at their facility up in Michigan , same facility that restores the cars in the heritage museum. So I'm happy

Great news. As an owner of more Corvettes than I can remember in the past I have a continuing interest and love of the Corvette. I am even getting used to the tail lights on the 2014 models now.
