I found a truck that was sitting non-op for two years. It has all the HD parts; 7.4L, 4L80E trans, and full floater rear diff. The PO claimed it had a GM replacement engine 35K ago so I thought that would make this project truck worthwhile. So far I've replaced the brake booster and MC. I'm cleaning years of grime and dirt and it seems I'm making progress cutting through the layers. I've used up two bottles of Castrol Super Clean so far. I normally don't like to use a cleaner this strong but in this case it's definitely needed.

The wiring was damaged and I was able to find GM Metripack connector kits online so I purchased one. The added plus is that the business that sells these kits is based in Grover Beach and so not only are they close to me but they have been extremely helpful with some of the wiring issues I'm dealing with so far. The EGR valve plug was destroyed and I was able to replace it without having to start splicing wires.

One of the problems I noticed was that the AC condenser was packed with oiled dirt that I was able to cut through with the Super Clean. This truck must've had some cooling issues before it was parked. I've got the grill and bumper pulled to repaint the front of the radiator panel and associated parts at this stage of the rehab.

Nice. Looks just like my 99 Burb. Mine is also a 2500 but has a 5.7 Vortec (last year for the SBC). It has a 14b semi-float with huge drum brakes. I want to swap in a full-float disc brake version of the same axle, from a 2000-2004 model. I might need to update the master cylinder to compensate for the rear discs.
BTW...late 90s GM 2500s are great trucks. This is the very top of the arc of GM's awesome rise and shameful fall. Everything before was old-school, carburetor and everything after is a computerized nightmare. Not to mention...these are REAL trucks with real heavy duty parts made to work. GM doesn't even make a 2500 Burb anymore (boo).

I've still got to bleed the brakes. These 4WAL systems are a PITA and a friend of mine was recently having fits with his '00 Denali. I ordered a tool online that is needed to bleed the brakes on these systems. It's very inexpensive, but needed. I'll take pics during and after this process later this week.
