CEL after Throttle Body flush, 2006 H3 with 80K miles. What could the problem be?

I took my wife's 2006 H3 yesterday to a local Chevy dealer for an oil change. Tech called me and "recommended" a TB flush and air filter replacement. I said yes. Truk was fine for about 3 miles drive. Parked it at Costco to get some supplies. When I got back in the truck, the CEL went on. I really hope this is NOT the common BAD Cylinder head issue. I purchased an extended warranty for the truck. But it has been expired about a year ago. Taking the truck back to the dealer tomorrow. Crossing my fingers.

What do you think is the problem after the TB flush?

I would recommend going to Auto Zone or similar and getting the exact CEL to help you troubleshoot. I doubt anyone here can provide much of a helpful recommendation without knowing the code. BTW, if you have OnStar active they can tell it to you as well.

Thanks alrock. I was thinking of doing that. I will post the code here when I get it. I am hoping that the truck can still be driven as my wife need to drive it to work tomorrow. If not, I will have to call-in sick from work tomorrow so I can drive my wife. Then have the H3 towed to the dealer.

If you need to see if it is simple, make sure the MAFF sensor wiring connector is seated properly. Maybe they did not snap it on good.

What the hell is a TB flush? Sounds like a sucker procedure. To do it correctly...you gotta remove the Throttle Body...flip it over...scrub it with a toothbrush and Gumout...and re-install it. Makes me wonder if these Techs sit around and dream up useless stuff to charge customers for.

I really don't know if that flush was necessary. But at 80K miles, I was thinking that might be helpfull for the H3. There are some Hummer owners like myself that aren't mechanically smart. So I rely on what the technicians recommend. I am now regretting to have done that flush last Saturday. I am taking the H3 back to the shop this morning.

I also took the truck to Auto Zone and O Reilly yesterday and asked if they can run diagnostic check. They said that have not been doing that foe years as the local repair shops here in Pasadena have filed a complaint that they are losing business. Both shop said the same thing. Don't know if that policy is just by location, or if it entire California.

Wow. Auto Zone is not doing the check? That strange... In any case I would take it back to dealer ant tel them to take care of it. The light came on right after their work, that makes them liable. In best case scenario could be a lose screw or (like Hunner said) unplugged MAF sensor.
Ask what is TB flush? ask them what they did. maybe they mean Air Induction Cleaning Service?

TB flush sounds like take the TB off and flush it down the toilet... Don't think that will help to anything do :giggle:

Back from the Chevy dealer. Here is the update.

Error Codes:

p0171 - fuel trim lean bank one code
p0106 - map sensor, found fuel trim percentage high indicating vacuum leak

Tech comments: found intake box hose not positioned correctly. Repositioned, reinstalled and found fuel trim parameter within factory specs. Test drove, found no SES light or other related warning lamps during drive.

I am thankful that it was not a Bad Cylinder problem. The service advisor said they replaced the vacuum hose. But in reading the tech comment, I am thinking that the tech who did the throttle body service did not reintall the intake box hose correctly?

I just wasted 1 PTO day from work.

BTW: You can buy a relatively inexpensive scan tool nowadays and keep it in your glove box. I try to keep one in my car.

That sounds like a good idea. This is the 3rd time our H3 had an error code. The H2 never had any. I feel like the H3 is a ticking bomb. What name of scan tool? Can i just go to Autozone and ask for a scan tool? Is it just plug and play?

The scan tools I carry range in cost from $20-$40. I bought both of them at Harbor Freight. I know there's a store in Pasadena. The cheaper one just had a J-plug and an LED module. The pricier scan tool has a few more functions including a code clearing switch. I think Hummers in general are very dependable considering their level of complexity. Mine has been very reliable. Any vehicle that goes off-road is going to take more of a beating than any car, whether you baby the truck or drive it hard.
