I would think that the tower would listen and understand its an emergency and once they say they are going in the Hudson, they cant make it to an airport.

What he did was great. We had an Aussie pilot a Airbus 380 (double decker) in another event that should have killed everyone onboard. Thankfully, our record stays intact QANTAS never had a crash that has killed anyone. Will see if I can find a link and post the details.
