The Mayan ruins are actually pretty cool. It's been so long I don't remember which ruins I toured though, apparently there are several and some are more impressive than others.

Don't drink any water from the tap or in the restaurants, unless it's from bottled water sources and don't drink soda's or water with ice - otherwise, you will be feeling the revenge of Montezuma on what you may think is an altar in a Mayan temple but in reality is a porcelain bus! Traveling down there gives you the perfect excuse to having to drink only cold beer or tequila! :hans:

BTW, if you and your wife are into diving or snorkeling, there are some great spots down there.
