Are people really this stupid?

I was in a Starbucks today. Drank my coffee, read the paper and decided to hit the head before I started running errands. While washing my hands I noticed a really well made sign on the paper towel dispenser detailing the 7 step process for washing your hands.The sign included an illustration for each step, including turning the water on and off. While I know the sign was primarily for the employees I was both amused and shocked to see the sign. Is the lowest common denominator in our society really this low?

Anybody else see any examples this stupid?

My guess is that it's a corporate risk management thing. Having posted this sign, Starbucks can now claim that they have done "everything" to make their employees wash their hands. Should they ever get sued by someone who got sick in one of their stores, they can now claim gross negligence on part of an employee.

But can't you assume that by the time someone is old enough to work at Starbucks they know how to wash their hands? 7 steps with photos, turn the water on, turn the water off with pictures? Surely a sign saying all employees must wash their hands before returning to work would suffice. Either people really are that stupid or lawyers have screwed this country up even more than I thought.

Well, I do know first hand how many things they make us sign every quarter to promise that we are adhering to various policies, etc etc so I wouldn't be surprised if it was a legal thing.

It's a health department "Government" thing. Now you know what happens when the Gubmint gets involved in hand washing....can't wait for Obamacare.

Handwashing is part of the training process for many restaurants, as are the handwashing cards. For our restaurants, we actually have to verify that the cards are posted as part of their inspections. It should be common sense but unfortunately too many people take the easy way out and there are opportunists waiting to capitalize on those mistakes.

Could be a food code regional thing. Ie some Counties have strict requirements about posted instructions for procedures so I guess Star bucks figured to go overkill on it and cover their ass.

yea, people are that stupid. Work retail and you will quickly find out how stupid people are and I quickly realized how much I hate retail. I work at Costco part time and recently got trained to work the gas station and you wont believe how many people do not know how to pump gas. They come up to me and say I have never done this before can you do it for me? I offer to teach them but they dont seem interested. they also love to smoke while pumping gas...then go inside the store, listen to the ridiculous justification on why we should understand and sympathize them (like why we should accept a return on an empty box of cereal, they decided they dont like it after they finished the whole box :no or just hangout in the parking lot and watch idiots fight all day over spots, they key each others cars and teach their children to behave violently when they have a disagreement

Sign in GM's old (now demolished) T&C Operations building men's room, Pontiac, MI. "Against City of Pontiac Ordinance to Eat in a Restroom."

Sign in the original Ford Headquarters on Rotunda Rd in Dearborn, executive men's room. "Gentleman, Please adjust yourself before leaving the Room." (I made sure my Sig 226 was well adjusted:shame:.)

And Dave, we have a similar sign in our men's room in the BLM office.

Obviously they don't think they can remember, hence the step by step sign.

People are that stupid. Believe it or not we have signs in our plant to tell people not to throw used toilet paper on the floor. Our Government is now in the process of trying to make these people citizens.

I was in a store a few weeks ago that had a trash can in each stall for those same morons. They still threw their used toilet paper on the floor. Needless to say I went elsewhere to use the bathroom.

unfortunately my co workers are this stupid. we transport sick people day in and day out. anywhere from 5-12 patients in a shift. so they should be washing their hands at least twice as many times but they won't wash their hands the whole shift or if they do only a couple times. sometimes not even before they eat :gaah:

and I can keep going on but I'd rather not.

(If anyone gets offended by the following, Im sorry in advance, but i think this would be a good reason why we have signs like these.) Those signs come in real handy, it was just the other day i was in the restroom and bam it hit me, how in the hell do i wash my hands? To my surprise there was a sign next to the paper towel dispenser giving me instructions. I would have been sooo Lost if it wasn't for that sign. -Sincerely Alzheimer's Patient

The sign at the Wal-Mart entrance that reminds you to check your car to make sure you didn't leave any of your kids unattended (saw this one yesterday). Wow
