Howdy Peeps ,

its been a while since I posted , Air Shocks , anyone running them..which ones....opinions , gripes, bitches ,pros or cons ? I am in need of shocks and my 17/70/285 tires are rubbing once in a while and havent figured out where or how...I dont think air shocks would require a front end alignment..er would they...I just had a FEA and didnt hear anything until recently...its another Duh factor thats hitting me in the #&@.

You should try and pay attention to what movement you're making when it rubs. I've got the same size tires and bs is probably close on our aftermarket rims. I don't have any rubbing. Turn the wheels to full lock and get under and take a look. Keep in mind suspension travel so look where the tire "would be" if the suspension was extended or compressed. You might wanna use a flashlight too. You may be able to see a scuff mark where its rubbing. Check on the sway bar too. Changing shocks shouldn't effect alignment. However, anything you do to change ride height will. I can't comment on the air shocks. That was a fad that's way before my time. Lol

Yeah. That's the only difference. That may create enough room not to rub. But I was under the impression you could stick 35s under an uncranked H3 with minimal rubbing. So 33s should have less of an issue. But I think that revolves around a vehicle with stock wheels. Maybe since our backspacing is not stock, its causing the issue.

When I had my American Racing wheels the back space close to but less than stock. I don't remember how much, but I think it was less than 1". I had a lot of issues with rubbing, even with 305/70R16's. When I switch to Hutchinson's with stock (except for the rubbing the anti-sway bar at full lock) back space the rubbing problems stopped even though I went to 315/75R16.

I'd focus on the BS. Increasing the running height can cause longevity issues with the half-shafts and front suspension.

Thanks ! thats good to know...the last thing I want to do is solve a problem and create another one....so are you saying that turning up the T bars has a back door effect too ?

If you put air shocks on the front you would alter the alignment anytime you changed the air pressure in the shock they would also change with the weather. Chances are they would ride like crap.

I have 285s on the stock wheels and they rub on the sway bar which is nothing to worry about.

The backspace on the AR-392 Tactic Wheels is 4.97" whereas the stock backspace is 5.84" so the AR-392 will protrude 0.87" more than stock. However, as I sift through the fog on my memory banks I remember that all my rubbing was on the E&G Fender Flares not on the stock fenders. Without Fender Flares it should be OK.

Did you ever have issues with the tire gettin up into the fender when flexing the suspension. I'm gonna have to compare my rims bs to oem bs but I worry the tires won't have enough clearance to tuck up into the wheel well...

According to Summit Racing :link: those have 4.25" backspace, so compared to the stock 5.84" you are sticking out 1.59" beyond stock. My guess is that will rub at full flex.

I got tired of the wheels sticking out and getting the sides of the truck muddy whenever it rained, so I went to the Hutchinson's with stock backspace. I have flexed it to the limit and beyond (broken 4 anti-sway bar linkages in the back) with 35" wheels without any rubbing. I'm quite happy with the stock backspace.

The biggest problem with aftermarket wheels on the H3/H3T is the stock backspace is almost impossible to find.

I've been debating this for a while. 35s are gonna be one of the biggest purchases for my truck. I plan to wheel it so I think I'm gonna have to find a set of oem 16s since it appears there's no issues with 315/75/16s. And if I can sell what's on there now, I can offset the cost a little.

I gota know , when your tailgate goes down and the trunk lid goes up...is that a cooler full of beer that automaticly slides out...or is it just an illusion ? :)

Actually the spare tire swings out, SlantBack goes up, tailgate goes down and you pull the red knob in the middle to manually pull out the cargo slide with the wet bar on the end. Yes it is the illusion of the gif. I took a series of pictures in different positions to animate it.

I never drink before the end of the trail. However, there is usually a supply of water bottles, Diet Coke and some quality beers (the kinds that you can't get in aluminum cans) in the cooler for once the driving is done. I stuff frozen water bottles in between the drinks to keep everything from sloshing around and dislodging the caps. I usually have a few loose water bottles on top to fill the voids as we consume and you have to remember to return the empties.
