H3 Air Doc install question

What is the reasoning for replacing the intake from the wheel well to the air filter box?

Supposedly it increases air flow which people say results in increased power and more MPG. I'm not sure if it's noticeable though.

That part you speak of was different between the I5 and Alphas. I installed the Alpha part in place of the I5 part on my truck but I can't really say there was a difference. The Alpha had a slightly larger opening.

I used the air doc for a few reasons. When I did the ARB snorkel kit I changed to a 2008 model air box on my 2007 Hummer so added the air doc to connect them correctly. No I did not see any performance increases and unless you increase your total HP by 10% or greater you will not actually "feel" any additional performance / increase in speed. You may gain more throttle response but that does not = increased 0-60 times. There is a good youtube video showing an H3 testing all the performance bolt on upgrades out there and what the result is. The biggest reason I went to the air doc is how easy it is to change spark plugs and coil packs.

Too much vibration and no gains. I only found gains when I installed the doc, header, borla catback and a tune together.
Any of those things alone got me close to nothing, but together they bumped my 0-60 by a whole second.

With 35s, I was pulling away from my friends stock H3 easily. By the time I hit 100mph, I had 2 cars length on him.

We did this on a private road far from the city.
This configuration didn’t last long, truck was too loud.

I still have the airdoc in my 06, it did improve acceleration but its not a big thing in day to day driving, unless you are red lining all the time. I did keep it as I didnt see a reason to remove it

Now, It does transmit alot of engine vibes to the airbox and then to the truck body as well as make the engine sound louder. Recently when I had the engine pulled out we noticed that the air box broke at the area where the intake piping goes into it from the engine. The piping is too rigid and transmits too much vibrations thr box cracked over time.

I still have it on!

I made my own; Simply cut the large complex resonator section off the tube, sealed the hole with a plate (pop-riveted & siliconed in place), and added a fitting for the PCV line. I did it while troubleshooting a wiring issue; it allows access to the engine wiring harness on top of the engine WHILE it was running. With the resonator in place, the intake tube had to be removed to access that wiring, and at that point the engine won't run because the MAF is not "in the airflow" stream anymore.

That said, I noticed absolutely no difference in performance on my Alpha.

I’ve had the airdoc on my 07 almost two years now no real improvements until I added the snorkel definitely see a difference in take off and acceleration. Even highway speeds. That being said air in is only part of equation. Still need to improve air out and pcm tune.
