Aftermarket Stereo Install in 2007 H2 LUX w/ BOSE

Has anyone else done this?

I pulled the Pioneer AVIC-x920BT out of my H3 before I traded it in along with the AXXESS GMOS-01. I have been researching online to see what's what about putting this into my H2, but I'm confused and frankly scared by the factory BOSE.

What the hell do I need to put the x920BT into the truck and retain the factory BOSE amp, OnStar, and wheel controls?

So I have been doing a ton of research and basically have two options.

Metra makes the GMOS-04 which is capable of retaining the factory amp, onstar, and chimes. There is another addon unit which can retain the steering wheel controls. I will lose the factory RSA and XM tuner.

Metra also makes the GMOS-100 which is capable of retaining everything, but the RSA and XM is dependent on the head unit you put in and will require a "piggy back" screen to toggle between RSA and XM (uses the AUX input on the aftermarket head unit).

I'm still going through the research, but I think the thing to do will be to go with the GMOS-100 and replace the factory XM tuner with the Pioneer unit. This will force the GMOS-100 to default to the RSA (no piggyback screen required) and will allow me to use the XM controls on the screen of my x920bt.

The question I have now is with the GMOS-100 and the x920bt's AUX line, what controls will the RSA screen have for those in the back seat?

Good info. One of these days I would like to upgrade my system. I know the Bose does pose some problems, but I haven't researched it all out yet though. Make sure to post up what you end up doing. I would be really interested to see.

I ended up just buying the GMOS-04 and ASWC module for steering wheel controls.

Further research indicated that my x920bt could not do dual-zones required for the RSA and I decided it was a stupid feature anyway. Also, I decided that XM is not worth paying for. The GMOS-04 and ASWC is between $70 - $100 cheaper than the GMOS-100 and also much easier to find.

The dash kit I ordered is a Metra 95-2009.

I will have to document the install and note how it all works.

Stereo is in... this is not a task for the feint hearted.

First thing's first - wire up the harnesses for the GMOS-04, ASWC, XM tuner, and camera.


Next is removing the center console.


Looking where the stereo goes. Not much space - here's the gut check... all that plastic and metal in the back has to be cut out for the aftermarket HU to fit.


Some photos showing the wiring behind the glovebox/dash. You can see where I mounted my XM tuner - used the factory location and parts of the factory mount (I had to cut the mount out, it was secured with weird screws I couldn't access... so I just cut them out). I cut the top off the mount and drilled some mounting holes for my Pioneer XM tuner - bolted it all back in with 1/4" screws and used one to double as a grounding post for the tuner.


This picture shows the wire I spliced into to give my HU +12v when the headlights are on - I used the first bulb which lights up the shifter positions. You need to tap into the gray/white wire - my wire is the white one.

Can someone tell me where the factory backup camera is located? I can't find a good spot to mount mine. Also can't find a good way to route the wire for it through the back of the truck.

I was thinking about putting the camera there with some double sided tape, but I can't figure out a good (easy) way to route the wire up into the cabin of the truck. I want to run it under the passenger side sill plate to the dash.

Can recommend using the rear cargo area maldings are easy to remove and I found plenty of room to run my coax for my FM trasnciever.

Can you post some pics? I still don't see a good way to go from inside the back of the truck to outside on the bumper - the H3 had a nice hole already below the piece of trim that says "HUMMER" across the back gate - just popped that off and ran the wires under it. No such luck with the H2.

Id get that camera up as high as you can get it... Why not just put it in the rear window? Of if you have a rack, mount it there.

I thought about putting it in the window, but it would just look down at the spare tire. I had it just above the hitch on my H3 and it was perfect. Also seemed VERY resilient to weather.

Im really confused as to why that is and frankly dont know where to go from here. I followed the instructions to the T. Please if anyone has any help it would be greatly appreciated. I had the exact same problem on my first attempt and I recall it being a REALLY simple fix... but I forget what it is. If I remember what I did to fix it I'll post it up.

Thanks so much for posting this. I was driving myself crazy with my Avic Z-110BT and GMOS-04 install. No rear sound at all. Of course I was test fitting everything so the console was still out and the RSA disconnected. Plugged it in and all is good in the world.

I did the exact same thing. Seems odd that the rear speakers are powered through the RSA module - I was planning to leave it unplugged back there to prevent people from turning it on since it doesn't work now anyway. Oh well!

Well I plugged it in and there is still no sound. :/ So I put the factory deck back in and am replacing everything this weekend. Taking out the on star and bose stuff and going all aftermarket.

That's been my thinking with this Bose set-up---take it all out and toss it in the trash and start again. I'd miss the chimes and steering wheel controls, but what a PITA!
I've never been impressed with Bose in a vehicle anyway, you can't turn them up loud, as the snotty Bose rep at one of their stores said "they're not made to play music with heavy bass"--well then what the hell good is it? I don't drive my deuce around asking people if they have any Grey Poupon for God's sake! (I think I just showed my age!).
I replaced part of my system with the Rockford Fosgate set-up, which seemed like a good idea at the time, but the door speakers sounded tinny even when they were new, and now after full volume blasting, they sound even worse. I've been thinking about stuffing some Alpine type R's in the front and back doors and adding something like the Stealthbox if I can find one. I think that may dial it in better for me.

I have an SUT, which means I have a sunroof, which means I don't get all that cool storage. I really miss the overhead console from my Titan.

Hi there !!! I thinking to remove the head unit of my h2 2005 sut .. But don't know which interface choose .. Access gmos-04 , access gmos-100 or PAC os-2bose for the Bose system
And the PAC swi-ps or access aswc for steering wheel controls??
I do not want to cut any wires , so did you cut wires with the interfaces you used? Or do they match each other ???
I do not have onstar and no xm ... But I'm thinking in the app radio 2 and it has double zone , so what if y want to keep the RSA ??? How do this works whit the pioneer app radio 2 ????? Is gmos-100 the only interface for RSA? It is 200 bucks !!!!! Hahaha

I used the GMOS-04 for chimes / onstar / integration and the ASWC for steering wheel controls. I would recommend these all the way, there are no wires to cut on the vehicle, just a couple on the ASWC.

There is another module you can get from AXXESS to control the dual zones on the AppRadio 2, it's a small LCD screen device that you can use on the XM satellite port and switch between RSA or XM (I believe this is how it hooks up). Your best bet is to call AXXESS - they were great to deal with when I had all kinds of questions for them.

Well as of two weeks ago onstar and bose is no longer in my H2. Replaced the door speakers with infinity speakers. Had two 10" Treo subwoofers and a Treo amp that I purchased four years ago and had in a different vehicle. I can tell you that replacing the factory touch screen with an aftermarket was a 100% B#TCH!!!! We totally bypassed the bose amp. The guy I have do my installs got a harness that just plugs into the harness going to the amp and bam everything worked. I am very satisified with the infinity mids and highs. Never heard a better clearer sounding speaker. The door panels are very tricky to get off with all of the plugs that have to be taken off. Getting the deck to sit in the little cubby hole was also a chore. We did have to cut out some plastic so that it would fit all the way in there. Overall I am satisified with the install.
