2012 Southeastern Regional Overland Rally and Workshop


When: September 27th – 30th 2012
Where: Crawford’s Camp just outside Murphy, NC​

Murphy, North Carolina, is an old town with its origin dating back to 1839 and is located in the heart of the Appalachian Mountains in the Southwest corner, where North Carolina boarders with Georgia and Tennessee. www.crawfordsattellico.com/ (Their website is currently experiencing problems, hope they have it back up running soon)

7:00 PM Meet & Greet at Camp Fire

Friday, September 28th:
Breakfast
9:00 am – 11:00 am Classes
11:00 am – 1:00 pm Classes
2:00 pm – 5:00 pm Leisure / Vendor / Exploring / Communicating / Socializing / Trail Riding Time
6:00 pm – who knows when Pot-look Dinner

Saturday, September 29th:

Hey ReconH3 I'm going to register tomorrow. I was just wondering if I have to reserve a camping spot at Crawford camp too. One of my friends may come with me and if he does he will bring his camper and I wasn't sure if registration covered a camping spot or not. Are you rough necking it, Rv, camper, or cabin? Just wondering. By the way I'm not sure if I'm more excited to go off roading with new people or to actually see your H3 in person.

Camping is included in registration. Only thing extra is the cabins. I'm going to improvise. If I can get some gear on time, I'll camp. If not, I'll get a cabin. I've never been up there, but was talking to a friend that was raised there and wheels. That's where Tellico used to be, but he says there is still plenty a great places to wheel up there. I can't wait. It will be great to meet other forum members

That is correct. It was originally going to be in Georgia. Fortunately for us Carolinians, it's in NC now.

I have a cabin secured. There are 4 more beds available if anyone doesn't want to rough it. I'm not sure how those 4 beds are organized, so first dibs go to those who arrive first. Couples get priority if there are separate rooms for obvious reasons. There are some ground rules since my wife and 3 year old child will be there:

1. No smoking in cabin
2. No alcohol drinking in cabin
3. No pets
4. Clean up after yourself
5. No outdoor shoes inside the cabin
6. Keep noise down in consideration of others. Especially at night, and especially when the little guy is napping/sleeping
7. Only people staying in cabin are allowed in. No inviting people to have a party. The campgrounds are huge and have plenty of facilities to have fun at.
8. If you plan to bring a firearm, make sure you are obeying local laws and campground rules at all times. I need to know that you will be bringing it into the cabin, where and how you will be storing it. If you plan to leave it in your vehicle, that's your business. If you plan to leave the firearm unattended in cabin, chamber must be empty, and a chamber lock is a must. If you plan to drink alcohol at all, the firearm must be secured before doing so. Be it in your vehicle, or with a chamber lock and unloaded. Remember, there will be a 3 year loose in the cabin. Even though he's been raised around firearms, I don't like to take chances.

I know I sound a little OCD but I have learned over the years that it's the only way to have a happy environment without bothering the others. PM me if you would like one of the spare beds.

I may have missed it but is there a cut off date to decide and register? There is training and trail riding but what is the Sunday classification event. Looks like it provides training from beginner to advanced which looks cool

Not sure about cutoff dates. If you read the thread on Expedition Portal I think they said you can even pay on the day. They would rather have people register early because it simplifies logistics. The Sunday event is usually some kind of challenge/competition. Last year they had an offroad navigation competition that was won by an H3.
