Super easy....you unscrew one bolt and slide em out. You access the bolt through the side panel on the door that is the little round black rubber thing. That pops out and the bolt is right there

That has crossed my mind before. Im just not willing to try it. The beauty with plastidip is that the over spray is super easy to clean up since it isnt permanent. I have found that bug and tar remover with a microfiber cloth does a pretty good job. If you spray bedliner over it, i just don't know if it would seep through (probably not if the layer of plastidip is thick enough) or if it would harden too much and you wouldn't be able to peel it.

So whats left to do?

well other than get the winch in the bumper not much, other than blacking out the rims, which will hopefully happen this weekend.
Also I guess beef up the front end with:

-Bulletproof/outfitter designs tie rods
-Preferred chassis/outfitter design steering clamp
-Possible RCV halfshaft boots.

Perhaps re gear to 4.56 and a 4:1 t-case but as of now its basically a finished project.......although idk how long it will stay in "finished" mode, just kinda enjoying it right now. :D

Its been awhile since I have udpated this thread.

The H3 had a pinion bearing go bad in the front diff. My original plan was to pull the front diff and rebuild it with a new set of gears, bearings, etc.
Well opportunity came when a rig popped into CJ (4speeds) shop for an SAS. I took the 4.56 cast iron front with locker and the rear gears from her and put them in mine. With some help from CJ (well a whole lot of help) the rear was regeared to 4.56 and new (to me) front diff was put into place. Ran into some hiccups along the way....carrier bearings on the rear were bad, luckily the local parts store had some. Also threw in some new axle seals in the front diff for good measure.

We also put the rest of the outfitter designs bushing kit in, that axle is not moving anywhere any time soon.

I also have the rancho kit from the same truck that will be installed sometime later this year.

So whats left?

-Install Rancho.
-Steering rack clamp kit.
-Install the winch that has been sitting in a box for well over a year.
-Replace aux lights (as none of them work) with leds.

...you forgot a few items:

-wire up locker
-get new rims/tires
-reinstall skids

Today I feel like I spent an entire day crawling around under a Hummer! Advil!

You will like that thing once you get the 35's on. Probably feels a little funny now with the lower gearing. You can probably break the tires loose from a stop now if you hammer it.

So, i haven't updated this in awhile. Plans change, no longer have the rancho, 35's are on with the 4.56 gears, and its runs pretty close to stock. I still haven't had the speedo reprogrammed but its not that bad, especially just putting around town.

This past March, i traded in my daily for a new daily. My old daily was an 01 suburban with 110XXX miles, which isn't bad however everything underneath was rusted to hell. The rear pinion bearing gave out completely and almost grenaded the rear diff. The tech at the dealer said he pulled out a handful of metal from the diff. Needless to say they were willing to give me on trade in what i was expecting to get, even with the pending repair. So I snagged a nice 2015 silverado extended cab, matching color too!

I had the BA bumper and rock rails blasted and coated in line-x platinum/premium, whichever one is their highest quality spray, to ensure it won't fade from UV rays.

I also threw on the engo 10k-s winch that has been sitting in my closet for 3 years. Installing this bumper by yourself is not the easiest thing to do, but doable.

I also took off my old offroad lights that weren't working and the old wiring atrocity that they were hooked up to.
Old wires :whaa:
Snapchat-7410121200019073287_zpszth3rl0c.jpg

New lights are KC pro sport gravity leds (spot beam), led wiring harnesses are so simple its stupid. I used only 1 harness even though its 2 set of lights. I bought some splitters from here http://www.speeddemonlights.com/harness-splitter-1-dt-light-end-2-dt-harness-end.html They work great and let me run all 4 lights off of one switch.

20160412_214600_zps9ocggzv6.jpg

I also picked up a gauge pod from a guy on facebook who was taking the time to custom build and paint them. I plan on installing an oil pressure gauge and transmission temp gauge. I want this done right and the wiring and install to look as close to OEM so im waiting on doing anything until i have everything all planned out. However i do have the pod installed, gives me a nice view of the airbag behind it!

I also did do an muffler delete, i'm getting the pipe extended this week so that the plastic on the bumper doesn't melt.
Here's a clip, i think it sounds decent, not ricy at all.

As far as future plans go, which i feel change all the time, are to finish the gauge install.
Pretty sure I have a rear main seal leak, so we'll see how that plays out.
Desperately need a new negative battery terminal as the current one is being supported with duct tape haha
Also have some leaky/seepy trans cooler lines, which ill most likely deal with when i get the temp gauge set up.
It would also be ncie to have some fancy rocker switches set up as well, but i'm in no rush.
I'd like to throw some fox shocks under her at some point.
Probably take out the CB radio, I never use it.
Wire up my front locker haha

Well, figured I would update this.
Back in April I was in a car accident that unfortunately totaled my 08 Alpha, everyone was ok, no airbag deployment.
Fast forward to the end of June, a 2009 H3 alpha with 28k miles and adventure package popped up online in Oklahoma city. I had been checking the listings almost daily and more than once almost bought one with higher miles. Had originally thought about purchasing the H3T that solidusj bought but circumstance prevented that from occuring. Anyway pictures from the salesman looked good, flew out to check it out and purchased the vehicle(these guys knew nothing about hummers lol)

sWzvEKj.jpg

SMsIAJy.jpg

Mechanically speaking it is sound, drove it the 800 miles home with no problems and has no rust whatsoever, which was the big selling point for me. Forgot how peppy the alpha was with stock tires lol
A couple of things that need to be remedied are
1. Power mirrors don't work, i think its the switch, new one is in the mail.
2. Dome lights don't work, all 3 sets don't light up. Bulbs are good. Going to test the wires to make sure power is going to them. Not sure what fuse that circuit is on, I think it's fuse 56, so ill check that eventually ( if anyone has any thoughts please chime in)
3. Chrome side paneling has to go, throws the look of the H3 off
4. This thing still has factory dueler tires, currently leaning towards cooper discoverer MTP in 35's
5. The rear door panels had clearly been taken off and reinstalled at some point and a couple of the push pins are bent and not seated properly, ill have to reinstall them correctly.
6. Someone cable locked the spare to the vehicle so out come the bolt cutters to remove that.
7. Hood release is finnicky, cable probably needs to be adjusted slightly.

As far as mods go;
-Found a new set of trail duty extended bump stops on craigslist, which ill put on after I level her.
-Gobi rack will get reinstalled and so will the lights, just need to get a new set of brackets for the rack and ladder
-Already installed an isimple gateway for the radio
-ill eventually get to having the grill painted white to match the body
-thorparts gen II bumper.
-sliders
-ucp-still have the transmission skid from my old h3, but not the t-case, so ill be looking for one of those.
-eventually re-gear to 4.56

Couple things I like about this one that my old H3 didn't have are having dome lights in the front by the sunroof control...when it works haha. Also has a back up camera which is nice.

EDIT: The cowl right below the windshield where the wipers are is black on my H3, looks like it was replaced at some point, possibly due to a windshield replacement where it broke during removal, who knows. Anyway ordered a replacement cowl with end caps from a wreck that came off of a 2007. I will probably use the additional end caps to do a cooling mod that recon had done, drilling out the holes to allow for more airflow out of the engine bay.

Congrats! Nice find that looks much nicer than the two we looked at for you in Massachusetts

Thank you! Yes it's clean that's for sure, has a couple of kinks but you can only expect so much from a vehicle that is 8-9 years old lol

You're still the best for letting me get back into a HUMMER again!!!

Well looks like most of my photos are gone now due to photobuckets new policy. I have switched to imgur and updated the lastest post, I don't see the point in updating anything further back as those were all pertain to my old h3, but i am certaily willing to answer any questions regarding old posts.

Interested in the Duellers if they got any life left....perhaps a partial trade towards a bumper?
