Where Moab failed, New Jersey became victorious

As a few of you have seen from attending Moab, those tiny little mud flaps that always get pinched between the rock ledges and the bottom of my truck when i slide down ledges are always hanging off and look like they should have ripped off long ago but stand their ground and just hang there. Well finally one ripped off on the NJ Turnpike... and then took a large portion of my rear corner panel with it when my tire exploded coming home from a camping trip yesterday. Luckily I was able to regain control of the car after the back end gave out and threw me into a very sketchy couple of power slides before we safely pulled to the side of the road.

Ouch! On the other hand. it could have been a lot worse though. Glad you came out of it OK. The auto body can be fixed, but sometimes the human body can't. Count your blessings :cheers:

Steel belts can do a lot of damage in a hurry. Glad you are ok.

Glad you're alright!

Once got an up-close look (on a bike, in the next lane) at that happening. The van did two or three 360s then finished a powerslide facing traffic. Blowouts are no joke.

:holymoly Glad you recovered ok!! I had a similar issue in an '81 camaro that resulted in a rear blowout that took out a huge chunk of my fender going 65 mph on US59 in Houston during rush hour one day about ten years ago. I just about **** my pants as did all of motorists around me in traffic trying to avoid me as I regained control. Not fun.

Finally all fixed up and I must say it turned out real well. I wasn't sure if these part combinations were going to cover up everything and without seeing the truck in person, most places were skeptical if it would work. But after all is said and done, it just needs a little paint touch up and it will be perfect. All the metal damage has been cut off and/or covered up!



And now i have a sturdy rear steel bumper that i don't have to worry about dragging off rocks with anymore

AJ, You probably see more Land Rover build threads then I do so you may know but have you seen anyone modify the brackets for the trailer hitch? It would give more clearance but they also look flat and could probably slide well just curious if those are a hangup.

I am talking about the part that mounts the hitch to the frame, there is one on each side.

You would rather he slide on the gas tank? it is flat steel, but I suspect that the down side would outweigh any sliding benefits... just sayin'

where did you get the bumper and flares?

Didnt see the gas tank above it...and I would of guessed it had a skid like ours do.
