EPA Clean Air Act petition

Apparently the EPA is wanting to make it illegal to convert a vehicle that was designed for on-road use to a strictly off-road/racing use via amendments/modifications to the Clean Air Act. Primarily it covers modifying the engine emission systems (which is commonly done to racing vehicles).

There is an article about it here, and I read through the EPA document as much as I was able and it does appear to be what they are wanting to do: http://www.autoblog.com/2016/02/09/epa-illegal-modify-car-racing-sema-official/

There is a link to the petition to have these amendments to the Clean Air Act dropped.

They've tried this before, the EPA didn't get anywhere. SEMA is a pretty big org, I can't see it getting past them. Sounds like the EPA wanted to go after "off road only" "Race use only" bypass systems sold on the market [and do end up on street vehicles] and decided to go after racing as well.

On road, registered vehicles is subject to emissions and FMVSS requirements. What you do with vehicles that are on private property, or "off road/OHV" only is another matter [ie. race/promotional vehicles].

True, but the EPA lately has been pushing through regs that many thought would never happen. Some are tied up in court, some are being enacted. Will this reg be fought in court? Yes!

I signed the petition yesterday through a link from our local 4x4 group. Something like 50,000 signatures yesterday alone, I'm sure this will get squashed.
