Hey guys; getting ready to drop my tranny pan and replace filter and fluid (way overdue, but...). Couple of questions: How much trans fluid should I buy? Any recommendations on gasket brand? Fluid brand?

TIA.

I think any Dex 6 will do. I want to say pan drop and filter change you need 5ish quarts.

I'm a fan of the Lube Locker gaskets. Simple clean installation, removal and reusable.

Wow, that's interesting; I like it. Unfortunately, I already purchased an ACDelco. I'm also utilizing a plastic kiddie pool as a drain pan, in the hopes that I don't end up with trans fluid all over my driveway. I'll report back! 🙂

I've used the AC Delco with success. But I've never been able to keep trans fluid off the floor.

Well, got it done. Kiddie pool worked great...or so I thought, until I walked around to the other side to see a large puddle on the driveway. Turns out a lot of fluid dropped onto the transfer case skid plate, and because I had the truck up on ramps, the fluid flowed to the rear of the skid plate and out of the 2 holes! Dammit!

Mine took a little over 4.5 quarts, though I gonna check it a few times after driving to make sure I'm up to level. Old fluid actually looked pretty darn good; still mostly red, and the old gasket came off pretty easy. That surprised me, since the truck has 170,000 miles on it. After seeing the fluid, I'm thinking that it was likely changed out prior to me buying it (at 98,000 mi).

2 things came up; The pan bolts were 13mm (not 14mm as the link above shows). Also, I had to release the shifter cable from it's bracket to access two of the bolts (driver side, rear), but that was pretty easy; just remove a clip, squeeze the tabs on the cable sheath, and pull it towards the rear of the truck. I could've likely gotten to the bolts with a wrench, but I wouldn't have been able to torque them properly, so...
