Over the last month since the wheeling trip to Rausch Creek in earl September my rig has been at the shop for a set of improvements. The shop was a little out of the way from my Virginia location -- just south of Flint Michigan at Ridge Demon where I left the T in his good hands for some improvements.

I had been working with Brodie for a while on ideas for some improvements on the drive train. Brodie has specifics on the build but he built and installed a transmission that is a level 2 raptor junior with some with added parts (like a beast transmission reaction sunshell). He previously posted up technical specs in the sponsors section but the long & short of it is is has a raptor torque converter a low rpm stall point and beefed up parts providing 500 lbs of torque. It has pan that helps provide air and keep the transmission cool as well.

Brodie also custom adopted the pan for the T and added an electric fan that can help reduce temperature in the transmission.

Along with the transmission we also swapped out the OEM 4:10 rings and gearing in the front and rear diffs that are standard in the V8 alphas for the 4:56's that are in the manual transmissions. In addition, he installed RCV CV joints on the T.

From my drive back from Michigan I can tell you that the power is great when combined with the V8, no issues with the hills of Pennsylvania or other.
While the small ring on the front diff will likely continue to be the weak point of the, the transmission provides a good feel that may be able to help reduce the use of the gas pedal as a way to power through some offroad obstacles.

Looks like a great mod. Looking forward to seeing what you think of it on the trail. Since you guys seem to spend a lot of time in the mud how do you keep the mud out of the fan?

In addition to the drive train improvements I also had Brodie help install powder coated OEM wheels and black mirrors & handles

He also helped put in some additional undercarriage protection at the UCP and around the front section of the exhaust and transmission area

I also added a billy boat exhaust system

And had Brodie modify the sway bar links for the rear of the truck. With his design of fox rear shocks, sway bar links and other adds I think the leaf springs are now the biggest limitation to added flex on the rear suspension.

Brodie at Ridge Demon installed one component at a time, tested it, then added other components. He also modified a lot of other items along the way to improve the performance and the strength of the feeder lines, clamps, and other components. Real quality and focused attention to detail.

I was lucky enough to get to see and ride in kflips rig on Thursday.

Good looking rig (no black rims as of Thursday) and the 4:56s made the Alpha feel like I think it should have felt from the factory! AWSOME! 4Low was Krazy, just like it use to be with 33s! Really makes me gald I'm going with the 4:56s. There will be no problem moving 37s with this combo on the street/highway or OffRoad.

kflips, you have a great well done rig!

It's good to hang out with smart folks for a while and learn. I'm looking forward to getting it offroad, hopefully early to mid November.

Are you going to be starting an "official" Kflips build thread?

Don't know - I had started one on the other site, started again at the September ROTM on this site (a day or two before the big bang). Not sure if doing it again is bad luck. If anyone is considering RCV CV Joints please note that Brodie had to do some work on that as the threading on the RCV's were different than expected.

I love the Big Bang Theory - great show!

I hope you do a more detailed writeup of these mods. Seems like you got some great stuff to share.

And as Albert King (and many others) has said: "If it wasn't for bad luck, I wouldn't have no luck at all" :)

Looking good, Kevin! The THORparts bumpers are awesome looking. Say, did you not have a back-up camera?

Recent upgrades & repairs:

My steering rack had seen better days & the front end was getting a bit sloppy -- so I worked a number of mods at the same time on the front end and added a few other "on the list" mods.

Firestone Airbags in the rear, I included a Daystar airbag cradle and linked the airbags to one point to air up both bags - the small white capped area is where I will air up the bags

Finally, I cannot recall if I posted this up before, but moved the Sirius antenna

Also put in a full time electronic rear view mirror (Pyle) - the camera is on the Thor bumper just above the hitch

Great choice on the airbags! They will not reduce down travel but still be killer for additional weight
