Hello Everyone, I would like to offer Moab local knowledge as the group needs it. The Fireplace at Old City Park is big and has seating and you can reserve the park for your group. I can help you contact the manager. (collecting firewood around Moab is prohibited, add it to your list of stuff to bring or purchase bundles from the convenient stores where you fuel up or GearHeads or Grocery Stores.)

A little known fact, Cliff Hanger Jeep Rental also rents pop up tents and fifth wheel RVs, if you want to rent those and stay out on Bureau of Land Management spots in the desert. Cliff Hanger will deliver if you are already pulling a toy hauler.

Welcome to Moab Everybody!

Welcome. A lot of us have been coming to Moab for a long time. Some of us even live there. Neo can provide all the firewood that we need. Can never hurt to have some more local knowledge. What types of knowledge/services can you offer?

It looks like I'm just going to miss you guys out there. I'm heading out there on the 22nd with a group of local Jeep guys in my JK. We are going to be there on the 23rd through the 30th, heading back to Wisconsin on the 31st. I had originally planned on taking the H2 and hauling a buddies Jeep, but it looks like I will be taking my Jeep now.

Maybe I can try to find you guys out there before I had home.

Damn! I just got word today that I'm going to need surgery on my right shoulder. MRI shows one, possibly 2 torn rotator cuff tendons. Bone spurs too. Earliest I can schedule surgery is 6 weeks from now, and considering the long recovery time for this surgery there's not much of a chance I'll be making the April BSW. F:swear:k!

Anyone on here ever go through this particular misery?

At any rate, barring any other unforeseen circumstances we'll see you all in October!

Are you implying as being around Moab as being outside the city limits? If so, since when?

3Hummers had shoulder surgery last year, though I can't recall if it was rotator cuff related.

Frank I had this surgery back in the old days after several Rodeo injuries. The surgery was very painful and it was 4-6 weeks recovery to get back to somewhat normal activities.
Dave had the same repair not that long ago and I believe the recovery was much better but my surgery was about 25 years ago. Dave can give you the run down on his. Last time I knew Kat had some experience driving maybe she could drive you and you could take the pictures.

Frank, I had three of my four rotator cuff muscles partially or completely torn. ( I recommend not trying to throw that 88 mph fastball again at our age ) :) my surgery was in late January and I drove Moab in April. I favored that shoulder, right/dominant shoulder, and drove mainly with my left. It was 6 months before I was lifting weights again and now at a year later am lifting the same weight and reps as before the injury. In April I couldn't have changed a tire by myself. Good thing is that with the Moab crew I knew I wouldn't have to.

Wow, 2 out of 3 of the "Bros" have had the surgery! Matt, I would of loved to watch you bull or bronc riding!:dh:

Well until I'm actually under the knife we wont really know the extent of my injury. Doc thinks there's a chance that the supraspinatus tendon has detached from the greater tuberosity of the humerus, in which case the recovery time from that repair is even greater. We'll just have to see how it goes. Dave, I gotta' say your experience is encouraging though!

My supraspinatus was completely detached, two other tendons were partially torn and my bicep was pulled up out of position. All is cool now even though I have given up fastballs. Back up to three sets of 20 on the tricep dip bars and the rest of my weightlifting is back to normal levels. I don't do anymore behind the neck presses though, everything is in front. Range of motion is actually slightly better than it was before and I am back in training. Get it done as soon as you can Frank, the older you get the tougher the rehab and recovery is. My physical therapist was really good and the key to remember in the recovery is that there is a difference between pain and discomfort. When doing the stretches and exercises take all the discomfort that you can handle but avoid actual pain.

Dave, thanks for the encouraging words! Sounds like you got your injury from being a big league pitcher (or Olympic class weight lifter)? :)

My brother in law (who lives in Corona Del Mar BTW) went through this 10 years ago. Got his injury playing tennis, but his game never got back to what it was before his injury. I guess every outcome is different. I have a neighbor who went through this recently, and something went wrong and he had to have the surgery redone a year later (probably got too active too soon). I hear you regarding the difference between pain and discomfort. There's several Youtube videos showing the rehab process as well as the actual surgery itself... very helpful.

Wish me luck!

I just try to stay active. Seems I enjoy everything more when everything works the way it is supposed to. Imagine that. :) You will probably be surprised how quickly you get back to relatively normal activity. The first week or two you need help putting shirts and socks on. After a little stretching, loss of swelling, etc you figure it out. Next thing you know you are leaving that bulky PITA sling off every chance you get. If you do the stretches and exercises as often or moreso than they tell you, do them correctly and ice your shoulder afterwards you will do fine. They gave me a TENS unit to use also but I never thought it did anything for me. I also went to a great surgeon. He does lots of the professional sports teams in SoCal and had done over 1200 rotator cuff surgeries. Make sure your surgeon has a lot of experience with rotator cuff injuries.

They were nutty last time until 4-5 weeks before the run. If they are that high we should all rent a condo...or camp Neo's.
