Ahhh a drive down the 405, never know what kind of obstacles you might run into to. :giggle: Wish i could head up to Big Bear, but have family stuff Sunday. Would be nice to take an ice chest and chair and watch people at the Gate Keeper

Too short notice for me, I'm getting ready for another off road trip on next Weekend, I need to pick up my truck at Tustin, and wire up my lightforce lights and fabricate up a military antenna mount for my bed this weekend :)

I'm thinking of CAD Designing an front steering reinforcement for the H1, something to better distribute the steering forces across both frame rails. Also thinking of something like a HOWE steering ram or a rock ram, but I don't like losing the self centering of the steering...

My steering got beat up on the last trip but I made it home.

Oh snap! Actually, I think the 405 moves faster. You also have to avoid the obstacles instead of driving over them.

I appreciate the invite but I just spent a great deal of time cleaning my truck.

Isn't there already a kit for strengthening the frame rails at the steering box?

Rubber duck and Predator has a steel plate, it needs longer bolts, but it spreads the force around the whole rail, where on the stock configuration they put a few boss inserts into the frame and weld it around the collar. The plate can be bolted into place or welded onto the frame.

I wound up having the body shop re-weld the collars with a thicker bead for now and they repainted the frame, I'll probably pick up the plate since that seems to be the simple route. Anything more elaborate usually involves a hydraulic assist which welds or bolts onto the center link and onto a new frame bracket.

Your steering might still re-center. Mine never did because of my hd pitman was so darn stiff! Almost crashed the first day I drove it!!

That's what happened to a Alpha owner on the east coast.

he got a nearly new H1 alpha with like 6000 miles on it and took it to rubber duck to get it all tricked out, 40-42" tires, 4-5" lift, satellite Internet and tv, every accessorie and rack you can get.

He almost crashed driving it home and wound up trading in the truck for a range rover. Euro car wound up picking up the hummer.

I heard about that guy -- what a moron if that really was the reason...didn't belong in one anyways. Mine loosened up after a while (got REALLY loose a few weeks ago!). My truck is not a daily driver so it was no biggie but it was a shocker the 1st time I drove it! I don't think my rockram was tuned properly...but it did save my but. The best way to save your butt is to just change the idler and pitman (especially the pitman) every two or three trails -- especially if you run over-sized tires. They are cheap and it's easy.
