there's a company that makes things called vehicle specific mounts. that's what I have. it looks like it's part of the truck, but i can't remember the company name... panavise, that's what it is -

i'll post a pic of the setup if you want. it puts the phone just to the right of the steering wheel in front of the AC vent. i like it.

I have the Panavise base with a Bracketron mounted on it. It allows many different sizes. The Panavise base is great because its mounted in a way that the screws aren't visible. Even the day you may want to remove it.

You have several options but I think you'll like the RamMount, that's what I currently run on mine & love it.

If you go with the Ram mount you want to get this baseplate, it fits perfect in the dash caddy.

Now I know for a fact that I'm getting the Ram, that's just the way I plan to mount it!!! What mount plate do you have? I want to make sure what I order is going to work.

I checked out your set up more then a few time but for some reason I just hate having thing on or in front of my A/C vent. Thanks for the input and I'm more then sure this will help others in the future.

These are the parts I got, the base plate fit perfect in the side spots of the dash caddy. I have both long & medium length arms that I’ve used between the phone & GPS, w/ the phone on the D/S of the caddy the medium one works for me & use the longer one on the GPS. Just check the size of your phone to see which size Xgrip you need, I have a BB Storm w/ Otterbox case & used the small Xgrip.

actually, now that I look it it, it seems like you could use that ram mount as kind of a cell phone go pro thing... that wouldn't be bad at all.

X2 on the panavise recommendation. Lots of my fellow HAM's in the radio club swear by Panavise.

Thank you for the input but I like the Ram more because I can rotate it when I want to use my GPS and have a lager screen to look at and also what John Allen said about a semi Go pro camera. I've been looking into a dash cameras also so this knocks out 2 birds with 1 stone. So a big thanks to John Allen for a great idea that I would have never thought of!!!

JGBB04 how strong would you say the Ram claw is? I don't want to take a turn to shape or hit a good size pump and have my cell phone flying out.

That Ram mount is strong - I have one too and use it for the phone. It has never bounced out. It's not great for filming as I tend to get the arm in the way but that can be fixed with a combination of different arms and joints. I use other Ram products to mount my iPhone and GoPro on the outside of the truck for video.

On the non-permanent suction cup route (for those looking for a different solution) Reloader just convinced me to buy this iOttie cell phone holder. The flexible, sticky suction cup holds on our textured dash without any problem.

The same mount works for the IPad mini mount which attaches to this vehicle specific plate. I will be adding it to my rig when it gets warmer! lol
