brushguard ?

Hi guys, lookin for your expertise here. I found a h3 oem brushguard for sale on craigslist. It says its chrome and square tubing. My first question is would this actually be the h3t oem brushguard but still fit the h3? And 2nd question is, being chrome, what are the possibilities of using bedliner on it to make it black. Sorry if these are dumb questions but i'm still a newbie here.

If it is the square tubing OEM then it is an H3X brushguard. It will fit all 2006-2010 H3s and 2009-1010 H3Ts.
I'll look for some pix.

thanks, yeah my bad I confussed myself on that. With it being chrome I should be able to bedliner it right? Sorry I don't know much about painting

thanks mutaint. I was thinking about geting a rack built by scarsman and thought this might go well since it is also square. Can't find much info on them but I'm assuming since it is modular, I could never put a winch plate on it.

Like Mutaint said, it is an H3X guard and will fit all H3's and H3T's. Yes it can be sprayed in bedliner, powder coated or painted. I actually have a couple pictures of one that was powder coated black on my home computer.

There is actually a couple people that uses winches with the H3X brush guard. Portager has one on his H3T with a DOI mount and there is someone on HF with a CBPhoto mount. Give me a few minutes and I will dig up some pictures.

As Corey says I have the H3x square tube grille guard (official GM name) and I love it. I'm planning to color match the grille to the truck and eventually when the chrome starts looking BTS (beat to crap), I'll either powder coat it or have it coated with bed liner.

The first two pictures that Corey showed were when I had the fender flares. The next two are without fender flares. The last one is with the Hutchinson double beadlocks and Cooper STT 315/75R16. Not to mention the new step on the RD Rock Bashers.

Mine doesn't have a scratch or a chip yet, although I don't use it to plow through brush if I can help it.

Chrome plating is a very thin layer of metal but it is bonded to the underling metal surface and chrome plating is harder than any paint or bed liner. Therefore, chrome finish should hold up better than paint. Most people who paint their brush guards get rock chips from hitting debris that other cars kick up and they have to touch it up periodically. I have 38K on my truck, probably 30K on the brush guard and it looks perfect.

Structurally, the Square Tube Grille Guard is two cast steel sections on the outside with sheet metal across the center. It is pretty strong, but it is not going to survive a major impact. Where welded steel brush guards will bend and you may be able to bend them back and not look too bad, the cast steel will break and it will be a total loss.

thanks for the info portager. I guess this is not the best guard for me. To many deer in my neck of the woods and I don't want to smack one and have the guard do a smack down on my radiator leaving my stranded.

Almost any brush guard or grille guard will smack into the radiator if you hit a deer. The only difference between the Square Tube Grille Guard and other steel brush guards is after you have it towed to the radiator shop you might be able to straighten a steel brush guard, but the square tube grille guard you will have to throw away and start searching for a new one.

If you want to hit deer at highway speeds and have the radiator survive, you should look for an integral bumper/brush guard where the steel brush guard is welded to the bumper and everywhere else possible. Be careful that the bumper/brush guard doesn’t prevent the air bag system from operating. Any brush guard that is cantilevered from the tow hook mounts is going to bend until it smashes through the plastic grille and into the radiator IMHO.
