Bebe's Long Travel H3 Build Thread - A Boy Howdy Story

Thanks Speedy....I have the EXACT same issue with the rear springs. It seems like the main spring is not beefy enough and it bends backwards on the ends after it protrudes past the other springs. The odd thing is the springs look great before I pull the jack out! But the arch quickly flattens and the shackles just keep folding further and further back. It doesn't seem possible but, I guess the bumper and the larger spare tire make a bigger difference than I thought. I just put on some BRAND NEW H3T springs and got the same issue. So, I know the problem isn't true "sag" due to wear and tear...its simply too much weight. I can't help but think the spring-over arrangement amplifies this already common problem.

I currently have (3) sets of springs...GM H3 springs...GM H3T springs...and Rancho lift-kit springs. ALL of them do the same exact thing. Its clear that the weight of the vehicle exceeds what they are designed for, and I'm adding a longer helper leaf similar to yours. Got any tips on dealing with those clamps? Do you think additional clamps are needed?

I had this problem with the rancho springs and even my old stock springs. They got bent like that also. My deavers solved that yet hang so low!!! I guess I shouldn't use stock springs on my spring over...

The stock springs are fine as long as you are adding the extra Chevy spring. The Main leaf needs to support.

I reused the stock clamps.I just gave them a little more room for the extra spring.
Big hammer and a vice:giggle:

I stopped by and snapped a couple more pics of the finished springs. We now have well over 10k on this setup.
The street ride is excellent as well as the offroad performance.

Do you think you could add that leaf to the stock springs on a stock ride height H3? Looking to prevent my rear springs from sagging/bending in the back, but not looking for any lift.

Sure you could add a leaf.
I'm pretty sure it would effect the lift but until someone tries it we won't know how much.

Anybody want to send me a victim:whaa:

:corn: I can see a little bend in my springs at the rear shackles, and know it is just going to get worse. I have been thinking about getting extended shackles, but sounds like that most believe that to be a temporary solution.

What steering rack did you use on the truck? Did it fit the oem tie-rods? Or did you have to customize them to make them work?

Do you think this rack would be a better replacement for the oem rack if you could properly mount it?

I agree......Damn by-standers always jacking up perfectly good pics.

wink, wink.

One of the pics I have been looking for was of Bebe's truck crossing a stream during a snow storm.

It was an old one I remember from back in the Eboloa days.

Been whole bunch of good Bebe sots over the years.

The product shots of her truck after she got that H20 gear....beautiful.

Always fun to follow her adventures....Be it projects or outings.

Sorry for the delay on a follow up post.

The Bebe Monster or H3B is getting another upgrade.
2012 6.0 V.V.T. 352hP from a 2500 suburban.
Updates will be slow at first as the wiring is 6-8 weeks out.We are busy shopping for parts needed for the swap.
We plan on starting the tear down early February

Be prepared for a strong rebuke from a few select members for reviving an old thread-- I've been on the receiving end of that faux pas before. Other than that, looks like an awesome upgrade. I honestly thought that truck had been sold. Nice to see it, and you, are still around.

EDIT: Thought I should add that for the newer members who are not familiar with this build, go back to the beginning of the thread and read through it. It's one of the few true "builds" in my opinion and one that took a different direction than most. It's a good read.
