I thought they closed Butcher Jones at Saguaro Lake

I can't find any notice of closure. Area is also known as The Rolls. http://www.fs.usda.gov/activity/tonto/recreation/ohv

Looked under their closures and didn't see anything either.

Hmmm, I must be mistaken. I thought there was a fatal roll over last year involving children being ejected from a Jeep and they closed it. Maybe it was just temporary.
I just might have to take a ride out there tonight.

I've seen evidence of a few rollovers on that big hill that have involved airlifting out victims. These people had to first be moved by boat by the sheriffs and then air-evac. Guess I missed the actual accident by about an hour.

It's scary stuff certainly. Even with a proper roll cage [OEM trucks like Jeep soft tops and H1 soft tops have warnings stating that the roll bars are there for element protection, not roll over protection.] you need needing to keep limbs and hands from sticking out and getting caught in a bad spot.

I'd like an Az/CA run, I was just passing through AZ this weekend actually. I flew out from LA to Durango, CO to pick up a Lincoln then drove it back through AZ, with a side trip through UT into monument valley. I had to make a beeline to get back home for Sunday night otherwise I would have stopped somewhere for dinner and met a few folks.

Is there any trails out near Parker/Lake Hasavu area?

Yes, there are trails near Parker and Lake Havasu. We keep talking about a joint run and then all of the sudden it gets too hot. We did a Jeep event there a few years ago and ran a trail called Cattail Cove. Had a few fun obstacles in it including the Bowling Alley

This guy was determined to destroy this stock Exploder before getting rid of it in a few days. Couldn't open his door after he bent up the steps

I did not see this truck on the trails :wink:

I did Pyette Draw a few long years ago and it's not a friend of long-wheelbase, low clearance trucks like the T (you guys will be dragging me off of rock steps and ledges all day long)! I did it in a short-wheelbase, high clearance rig ('86 CJ7).

It's not a trail for newbs and carnage (body panels, suspension and powertrain) is a good possibility. We would also need a few rigs with winches to help rigs clear the waterfall. Dwaine's Scorpion is made for this type of trail - not too sure about stock H3s with 32" or 33" inch tires. Rear locker, UCP and rock sliders would be "mandatory" rig equipment for this trail, IMO. It's been a while since I was on it, so I'm not sure how the bypass trail is.[/video]

I have a really good idea what your "kind of fun" consists of when you hit the trails with your "beast"! :wink:

Needless to say, on this trail, it would include dragging a certain high-centered black T off of some rock ledges.......that is, unless I happen to be riding with you that day!

Here's a sic pic of the "articulation" of Dwaine's "beast" - his axles are in an extreme "X" position while he's calmly and smoothly going over some huge boulders while texting/placing his "to go" dinner order at the "Lucky Wishbone" restaurant!

I was thinking it would be nice to do a run mid-way between LA and Tucson and have a California & Arizona get together. Maybe Sleeping Princess trail which is between Laughlin NV and Kingman AZ? Laughlin is 4 hours from Phoenix, 5 hours from LA and 6 hours from Tucson and has a lot of places to stay.

Sleeping Princess looks like a good trail. It is challenging but not impossible with great scenery. For those who want more of a challenge, they can try Hell’s Half Mile and/or the Bob Miller Extension. Here is a :link: to a Heep trip report.

That looks like an awesome trip! Would you be interested in leading this one? Hell’s Half Mile looks like a serious challenge w/carnage, even for an H3. Zach, Alex and I wanted to do a cross chapter run but things just haven't worked out this year. Maybe if we a trip planned several months out, I can get some time-off planned out.

Zach, Alex and I wanted to do a cross chapter run but things just haven't worked out this year. Maybe if we a trip planned several months out, I can get some time-off planned out.

I was hoping someone else might volunteer to lead it, but I’ll organize it, and if nobody volunteers to lead it then I will. I won't be leading Hell's Half Mile though! I want to walk it and see somebody else run it before I even decide if I going to try it. With my wheelbase the V-notch looks challenging! On the other hand the trip report I found is 4 years old, a lot can change in 4 years. Maybe Surge could do it with his trailer! I checked the schedule and weather in Laughlin and I think we should shoot for Saturday, November 3[SUP]rd[/SUP]. That’s 3 weeks after Moab and 19 days before Thanksgiving. The temperatures should be cooler by then (only El Diablo would like it there now!). The monthly average high Laughlin in October is 88F and November is 74F. I’m thinking we drive to Laughlin/Bullhead City Friday 11-2-12, do the Sleeping Princess on 11-3-12 and do optional wheeling in the morning/drive home 11-4-12. If you and Alex agree, I'll start a new thread on this trip.

This interests me. I would be willing to run sleeping princess and then depending on time I would walk hells half mile before I open my mouth and say I will run it. I think size would be the issue but squeaky is turning 7...the paint is scratched shes been moabed and it may be time for tougher trails if my driver skill could improve. I could take the doors off so the main damage would be on the plastic fenders, they pop back out

I'm sorry, I thought you had been on this run before. Maybe I can get down there a day early and do a pre-run. Lets get a date locked in and I will see if I can work some magic for some time off.

Sleeping Princess looks fun. A little tight in a couple of places but nice trail.
