Do not take the 491 in NM. Lots of construction, ****ty road, no work going on, low speed limits, limited passing, etc. suckiest road in the West.

I guess the State of New Mexico couldn't buy every citizen of the state a trampoline so the built highway 491 instead. Now all residents can throw the kids in the car and head out to 491. Some parts bounce you around like a trampoline, some are like a roller coaster and the best parts create a few seconds of weightlessness so you can have the same experience as our astronauts. As you get braver and more reckless you can increase your fun by adding speed. Mind you that all of the fun described above starts at 35mph and gets even better with each mph you add. Fun for the whole family.

no, I do not recommend anyone ever drive this highway, in New Zmexico. Magically as we crossed the border into Colorado 491 became just a normal road. We will be going home a different route.

We made it over Columbine pass. There wasn't a 'road closed' sign so we just kept going until we couldn't. Turns out getting out the Nucla side was interesting because the road was closed at the exit. Just got to our condo, cleaning up and grabbing food. Will stop by the outpost tonight.
