2007 H2 w/ 7-pin trailer harness - brake controller from factory?

My 2007 H2 has the 7-pin adapter in the bumper next to the hitch. In the manual it indicates this as the "heavy duty towing package". Does this mean my H2 has an electronic trailer brake controller installed from the factory?

No---the 7 pin plug is installed at the receiver, but you have to get the under dash wiring harness and a brake controller to make it work. The harness comes with the front extension kit or you can buy it separately for about $20ish.
Once you get the harness, you'll have to connect the wires to the controller (we soldered my connections), then the harness plugs into the junction box under the drivers left side dash. I learned the hard way that the brake controller harness plugs right into the same place as the over head roof light harness, so it's one or the other.
I also learned the hard way (not reading the miniature instructions with the harness) that you have to install a 50 amp fuse under the hood for the trailer power wire if you have a trailer trailer needing to charge it's batteries. The harness will work without this fuse installed, you just won't have any juice to keep the trailer batts. charged up---a real bummer when you're in the middle of the woods in 40 degree temps and your trailer heater stops working!
Hope this helps you understand what you need.

ok - so I want a Tekonsha Prodigy controller and the OEM harness which plugs in under the dash (and solders to the controller).

When you say overhead roof lights, are you talking about the OEM marker lights (orange / red) or a set of offroad lights?

If you have never had your OEM tire tools out, you might check there. When I got my truck the harness was stowed away with the tools. It's worth looking!

He already bought his... But this is worth checking out for anyone else who is planning on adding the controller. My truck has the plug already under the dash, with the wire leads tied up. I'm guessing either the previous owner had it and put it there, or removed his controller and tied the wires back.

My F150 came with the harness packaged in the same bundle that the owners manual was in.

And I'll throw another vote in for the Tekonsha Prodigy! I've used others, but the Prodigy is defiantly the best I've used.

WARNING: Use A volt meter to check the OEM harness to ensure they wires are labeled corrrectly. Mine were not even close and I had to pull the wires out and re-pin them into the harness.

I did not know that...

can someone take a pic / show me where I should be looking for this thing? I got under there quickly the other day and wasn't exactly sure where I should be looking except "left of the steering column".

Ok, I finally got the stars to align and all of my pictures uploaded into Photobucket--here goes......

The junction box under the dash, to the left of the steering column, with the brake controller harness plugged in--harness plug is at top left corner with the larger red & blue and several smaller wires coming out the back of the plug.
Brakecontrolharnesspluggedin.jpg

Junction box with the light bar harness plugged in same location---you have to remove the brake controller plug. The brake controller plug is off to the right, unplugged--hey, it's one or the other, not both!

Fuse box under the hood--the absolute top left fuse is where the 50A goes in; mine has a 60A fuse b/c I was guessing at the parts store. This is the fuse that feeds the trailer 7-pin connector with power to charge your trailer batteries. My fuse box originally had a "blank" red plastic plug filling the fuse spot, it resembled the fuse, but was just a square piece of plastic.

The lid for the fuse box under the hood lists the50A fuse location as "Stud #1*". The note says the fuse function & amperage will vary with vehicle content.

Oh yeah, I completely forgot about that black lid--it unscrews with the plastic thumb nut in the center. It is the one by the dead pedal.
I took mine off originally and lost the nut then finally had the dealer replace it. Then I took it off again and just never put it back on.

Wiring on that brake controller looks questionable? If you look at my pictures in this post, the brown connector was for the lightbar--this controller has that tied into the other connector on the brake controller in the Craigslist add. That thing has alot more doo dads on the harness than mine did---all mine had was wires, what's with the relay and other plug? Should be alot cleaner......

Not to raise the dead, but this was a great find! I forgot all about this thread, and doing a Google search for H2 trailer brake wiring pulled it up. Going to be hooking up my new Prodigy P3 controller this weekend, and I was wondering why there was no power to the power contacts in the plug. Now I know all I need to know!

Thank you Twin for the great pics and info!

I've been working on an old RV trailer we got from a neighbor and getting it ready for this summer's road trip to...

Yeah, funny I just reread it because you renewed the post. The biggest part that stumped me was the blank plastic fuse under the hood. That resulted in cancelling a camping trip in Canada early because I lost all trailer power due to dead trailer batteries. Then I got to eat crow when my father in law told me to test for power at the 7 pin connector at the back of the truck. Of course it's got power I told him, it has to. Then I connected the meter and got a taste of fresh crow. I still regret that.
BTW--I posted this back in the days when I still had patience to download pics to PB and then copy then onto this site. That **** has grown old and I haven't posted up a pic in years. There's got to be a better way.
