...but it's such a good truck.

so at 187k miles, the leaking steering rack finally got replaced... along with the front output shaft seal of the t-case (which had been slinging fluid everywhere for a few thousand miles). and mid-job, we recognized that the ball joints & passenger-side front diff bushing are shot. got new...

    Changing engin to Ethanol

GM was running stock flex fuel systems in a bunch of vehicles years before the H3 came out... that said: in addition to retuning, he'd need bigger injectors, a higher-flow fuel pump, and the sensor that measures ethanol content so the PCM can adjust the A:F mixture appropriately. it'd take a...

Anyone notice how the H2 (Concept) looks really H3-like?

that CG video is about as lame & useless as the 22" wheels it depicts. i do appreciate the H1-ish styling cues, though. would've certainly improved the last iteration and needs to be no bigger than a Tahoe.

oh, i almost forgot. so about that power steering cap... i found the dipstick part of it just sitting on top of the transfer case skid plate! not sure how... guessing it bounced back up off the road or something.

    Oil usage observations

after starting to foul the #5 spark plug with oil, i just bit the bullet & converted the PCV to where both lines go into the catch can (adding a breather on top). capped the intake ports, and now they won't suck the crank case at all. it'll result in less air circulation inside the case, but...

rerouted the catch can yesterday... so far, so good. it also just dawned on me after church that it'd been 50k miles since i changed the driveline fluids (not the 30k i was thinking)... so that was my afternoon. Redline GL5 75w90 in the diffs looked great & was still pretty clear. GL4 MT-90...

Ho can I identify the trim level of a H3?

the closest thing to an OEM video screen was if it had the optional back-up camera (displayed in the rear view mirror). yours was certainly added aftermarket. and our 2009 is a little bit of an oddball: Base model w/ 5speed, tow package, tan two-tone cloth interior w/ non-heated power driver's...

What did you do with your H3 recently? NEW

yeah, that's what i thunk... but i've learned to confirm stuff before buying parts if i can. was getting P0305 & P0355 (cylinder 5 misfire & ignition circuit), so i swapped the coil to cyl 3 (hoping the code would follow... & if anything to balance it out better)... cleared the CEL, drove it...

hopefully this cap stays put! and this ain't so much what we did to the truck - but more that the truck scared the crap out of my wife today. she called me on her way home saying out of nowhere, it started stalling/stammering going up the mountain & would barely even do 45 in 3rd gear. this...

    Reprogram Tire Size

if i remember right, he had our computer in & out within a day, too... but that's still a week without a computer, and my wife does home health. GM's Tech 2 scanner definitely changes tire sizes; i'm pretty sure a couple other mechanic's shop scanners do, too - it just seems like they all might...

    Reprogram Tire Size

PCM of NC ain't open on the weekend, but i called yesterday. as mentioned out the gate: he already tuned our truck 4yrs ago, and what he quoted for just changing tire size or even doing a couple minor updates was significantly less than i originally paid... and much less than the dealers here...

    Reprogram Tire Size

PS: This correction doesn't just ensure the speed & mileage shown on the dash are correct. It also affects ABS behavior (and I imagine traction control + stability control + the simulated limited-slip action) to ensure they all function correctly.

    Reprogram Tire Size

Looking around the forums, I can't find anything on folks reprogramming different tire size in the PCM so that the speedometer & odometer read correctly. Are folks not fixing this when changing tire sizes, or are they just not talking about it? I simply want to confirm what methods are...

    Oil usage observations

over the last month, we're still consuming oil... but slightly less of it now. the catch can shows more of the normal yellow condensates in the bottom of the liquid (with oil still on top of that). i'm now thinking it's simply more a factor of climbing a mountain every day at highway speed...

    Full time 4x4??? HELP!

    Full time 4x4??? HELP!

while i expect most folks understand what alrock's getting at, i'll lay it out there point-blank: 2wd and neutral are two different modes. putting a transfer case in neutral has the same effect as putting anything else in neutral: it disengages all gears and as such will not move under its own...

What did you do with your H3 recently? NEW

i'll keep that in mind... meanwhile, my valve cover gaskets finally arrived Saturday. i got the truck back together that evening, and it's already driving better. throttle's definitely a little more responsive. i'll check the catch can in a couple days to see if anything actually changed.

What did you do with your H3 recently? NEW

i seriously don't get why anybody uses drive-through car warshes... a 5yr-old with a hose pipe in the driveway results in the same level of cleanliness and has about the same likelihood of breaking something - except he'll do it for a cookie instead of $20! even then, half price at the...

    Fender flare weatherstrip
