Ok guys. Just got back from China. Saw many Tank 300 vehicle's (they're new). They immediately caught my eye. Very H3-like! I managed to get some pics (below). They seem to be selling well given how many I saw in the short couple years they've been on sale. Some online posts compare them to a Bronco, but I think they're a tad larger, like H3 size. It's probably what the H3 would be today if GM kept building them.
The name 'Tank' is kind of a wonky name, but it makes the point. They're built by Great Wall Motors (GWM) ...which has been building pickups for a while and avail in other markets like Australia. The Tank 300 is an offshoot of the pickups. They've been selling Tanks in Australia and other markets (mid-east) for a year or so. There's a base and some off-road packages, like the H3 had. Don't want to start a politcal conversation ...just thought it was a neat vehicle. I think they're going to sell pretty well.
A few mechanical things that jumped out:
1) Frame - Seems well made and designed. Items tucked up tight away from off-road obstacles.
2) Rear Diff - Like a copy of a Toyota truck welded rear end, which has a high profile, very strong, removable gear set. Low profile trailing arm mounts and shocks tucked up tight (provides more off-road clearance).
3) On the off-road versions they use very robust aluminum upper A-arms. The ball joints on those seem to be replaceable (sorry I forgot to get pics of the off-road a-arms).
4) Front suspension are coil-over shocks ...like Ram 1500's (and others) use.
5) Interior is nice. No pics, but you can see in the links.
6) Tires seem a bit small on the 'Base' vehicles, but the off-road versions have larger tires that look about right.
7) Mfgr Link. Youtube overview:
Note: I don't have any affiliation with them at all. Just thought they were neat.
