Hy guys, a french friend wants to convert his H3 3.5 to Ethanol , due to the fuel prices in France. Does the PCM or BMC need to be reprogrammed ? Thanks guys.

Interesting choice. Has that friend done the homework on what ethanol may do to fuel systems in cars? E10 (10% ethanol) is generally considered safe for a vehicle with the H3's age, but higher than that may cause issues.

GM was running stock flex fuel systems in a bunch of vehicles years before the H3 came out... that said: in addition to retuning, he'd need bigger injectors, a higher-flow fuel pump, and the sensor that measures ethanol content so the PCM can adjust the A:F mixture appropriately. it'd take a good while for that conversion to pay for itself if his only reason is because it's cheaper.

oh, and expect the fuel mileage to decrease.

There's a company called Lethal Garage selling a "2008-2010 hummer h3 flex fuel kit" and they state a "proper tune" is needed to run E85. In 2010 Hummer released a Flex fuel compatible version of the H3 Alpha (V8). But the word on the street is that when using E85 the fuel consumption was higher, and power lower. I'm in the Czech Republic and run my H3 on E10 without a problem, but it has higher consumption, so I haven't bothered trying E85 as the savings would be irrelevant unless it was like 20% cheaper.

what is E85 ?? never heard that term before
Hi, its flex-fuel, E85 is the designation for a gasoline type bio-fuel with an Ethanol content between 51-85%. I think its an international code, but in Europe the reference is seen on almost all fuel pumps. Mainly E5, E10, E85 gasoline, with Ethanol content of 5%, 10%, 85% respectively.
