Skeptic, I look at it as prepare as you afford it. There s always the idiot who will criticize you. Saying you should have bought 101 rounds of ammunition when you only have 100 and that wasn't good enough. These idiots on TV have made themselves targets and the reality show has made them lo stupid.
My issue is I never think about it. I could probably use someone to remind me and keep me on track. I don't worry about what others think, and to be honest I don't go around telling everyone that I prep.

I work with someone who thinks the economy is ready to collapse. So I'm reminded of prepping all the time. Thing is last summer he said it would collapse by Christmas. Well we're still here. That's one of the reasons for this thread. Sometimes good info comes out and if nothing else, some fun.
I'd like to think the U.S. is strong enough to survive times like these. But with arguably the worst president in office and Congress not strong enough to throw the bum out. I don't see good things coming. If Hillery is elected the next president... well for now we'll just leave it at that.

I don't mind talking about prepping. You can learn a lot and you also get a feel for which friends you would like around when things do go south.

There is always someone who thinks the economy is ready to collapse, and unfortunately I have to agree with a lot of it. I don't think we are as close as the doomsayers believe, but I would say there is a very thin margin and it's getting thinner every day. An entire generation filled with entitlement attitude and a current president bent on getting us as close to socialism and gov't bankruptcy as he can (il)legally get away with.

Locally, regionally, nationally, and world-wide - man made or natural - there will be disasters in the future. It's really just a question of when and where. I just needed a reminder of this.

I don't mind talking about it either, I just don't advertise to everyone. For example, we have some close friends that live just down the block. If SHTF I know they would be coming to us for help. I prefer the group strategy to going solo, but I'm not sure how much help they would be. For sure they would be a drain on resources.

picking friends that have skills and resources will be the best plan, i have a group of friends and a place to fall back on, i dont get all crazy with this stuff because i have traveled the world and we are still very strong as a nation, the thing that makes me somewhat have supplies is the city areas "the entitled group" wont get the supplies they need to be happy then they spill out in other places and causes chaos, people are so used to being comfortable here so when things get uncomfortable it can go south quick, but regardless of how it goes i figure a few months things will stabilize in most areas, egypt, syria, mainly bad in big cities, other locations not really affected by mass violence. i think those two countries offer a lot of insight on what to expect, but in america us citizens are much better armed so that will change the length of conflicts. im not worried about it anytime soo but i could see something happening in my life time if the gov doesnt fix itself (which i have little expectations of)

The problem with the government fixing itself ISN'T with the system we currently have. It's a fundamental entitlement issue. People have figured out they can vote themselves "free stuff" just y voting for whom ever promises them the most. Unfortunately you get what we have now.

I truly think Clinton has a very good chance of being our next president. If that happens this country deserves what it gets.

One thing that is quite different from Egypt is our regular military is not big enough to takeover this country. Also the Posse Comitatus Act is pretty specific about the Federal military can due. Also they do manage to go beyond there bounds they would have to face the National Guard and a lot of old pissed off veterans.

all the people i work with (combat arms unit) will not support any kind of order that comes down from higher to take our rights, so yes a military power big enough to accomplish that goal would be very tough because those guys are on our side, the talks i hear about a lot are un people coming to help. i have my doubts that it would happen and would be a huge mistake too. if america votes clinton in then we truly are doomed. but then again we are stupid enough to vote that sorry excuse for a president in twice. to me if you got any sense of awareness in life whatsoever you wouldnt vote for either of them. but yes eventually all great powers fall because people look for the easy, shortcuts, and freebies for self gain which in the end ruins nations. of course there is a lot more than that but you get the point. but i am ready for whatever happens, and no need to worry about it.

I've talked to a few Air Force personnel and a least the ones I've talked to feel the same way. I'm happy this never came up when I was in. If it comes to having to make that decision it may be difficult to know wen to draw the line.

I'm having issues with my keyboards and this forum. It doesn't always receive my keystrokes. I think it may have something to do with the spell checker. So in an earlier post my comment didn't come across right. I corrected it but I'd like to repeat it.
I don't think there is anything fundamentally wrong with our current government system. It's lasted for over 200 years. And though like everything I has flaws, it's the most perfect government system on this earth.

I can say without fear of contradiction that the government we have now was not what was envisioned by the ones who signed the Constitution - some, what I think, should be required reading The Federalist Papers. It was a written, editorial discussion between two of the framers of the Constitution where they were selling what the Constitution to a skeptical population... why it's interesting and should be required reading is James Madison and Alexander Hamilton write what the founders were thinking when they drafted the document. It gives the moment in time before Congress and the Courts started changing it. What you'll see is that is nothing like what we have today.
As for debt, consider this. When you owe the bank money, if you don't pay, the bank goes to Court and gets the power of the US to force you to pay (a judgment). If the US defaults on its debt.... who forces it to pay? the US can print money just as long as they wish, and could ultimately divest the current greenback and print new money.... while the world would throw a hissy fit, they would have 2 problems 1) they need the consumers and production of the US far more than US needs them nevermind the problem they'd have with immediate and persistent depression; and 2) who are they going to get to collect?

Guess I didn't come across right. I meant our form of government. Not the crooks that have been elected into office and are now corrupting it.
So I agree with you SBG

The form of government, structure, and guiding constitution are great. The problem is decades of twisting, changing, and simply ignoring the constitution along with gov't bloat and excesses, allowed overreaching of authority, partisan politics, and corruption.

Lol!
I say the biggest trouble we face in this nation (USA) is the people themselves.
The trouble all starts with the WE of the.....
We the undersign here do.....
That is the largest problem. There is a sickness in the body of people who make up the society which then elects the individuals to manage our concerns.

Ahh yes and those D@mn lawers....lol!
