Let's start a thread to document what good, prudent steps one can take to ensure an H1 is ready for running trails.

I'll take the first stab:

Engine:
Oil level?
Oil change schedule adhered to?
Coolant level?

Transmission:
Fluid level?
Fluid change schedule adhered to?

Brakes:
Fluid level?
Pad wear / thickness?
Rotors healthy?

Tires:
Inspect thread for damage or stuck objects (including spare tire(s))

Ball joints:
Excessive play?

Steering:
Excessive play in idler / pittman arm?

CTIS:
Leaks? (Should be less than 2 - 3 pounds loss over 2 days)

Leaks:
Are there any leaks? If so, determine what's leaking and whether it's safe to operate

After the trip/Before:

Tires:
Have 1 person drive the truck and another person with a flashlight watching the tire. Roll forward slowly and let the person look for cracks on the outer part. Then have the driver roll backwards to double check. Now on the inner part of the tire you look under the truck and have the driver slowly go forward while you check the inner outer sidewall. Then roll backwards to double check:thumbs:

I'd add another check:

I'd make sure the parking brake is working and adjusted correctly.

I'd worry about H1 owners who cheap out with the rear calipers, remove the parking brake and install the front calipers on the rear end. I bumped into that once.
