Last week I flew to Arkansas to pick up my new to me 2009 H3 Championship edition. Adventurer has built a great truck and it is a nice upgrade from my 06. After checking out the truck and the shop where adventurer works, it was time to hit the road.

This was shortly after i left his shop, grabbing a bite to eat and getting some snacks for the road. My planned trip would take me through Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Utah, Nevada, Idaho, and finally Oregon. The first night I stayed in Oklahoma City.

Day 2 was a long day of driving. I made it through Oklahoma, Texas, and New Mexico. I had enough time to drive through Monument Valley that evening.

Monument Valley is in the middle of nowhere but worth the drive if you have the time.

I even found some dirt to enjoy in my new truck on the first full day of ownership. This is called Mexican Hat, which is just outside the town of Mexican Hat, UT.

As I was leaving the area, I saw a sign for the Valley of the Gods and saw dirt so I checked it out. I didn't have enough time to drive the whole trail, but it looks like a beautiful area worth exploring.

One of my many stops at a gas station, for the trip I averaged 15 mpg, my best tank was 17.49, worst was 13.13. Between the hills, mountains, and high winds in OK I think my avg was pretty good. I will update as I get back into real world driving.

On a suggestion from a friend from work I drove through the Valley of Fire in Nevada on the way to Vegas. It was amazing, I didn't have enough time to explore or hike the trails, but plenty to do here.

My family flew to Vegas to finish the trip with me.

The next morning we headed back East to check out the Grand Canyon. This was our first view from the Visitor's center.

Thankfully the Grand Canyon is huge, and we got some much better views on the drive out.

My favorite view isn't in the Grand Canyon National Park. This is just outside of Page, AZ, and is called Horseshoe Bend. It is a short hike from the highway and totally worth it.

After the Grand Canyon we headed north into Utah. We felt like we were being chased by stormy weather all day. We drove through Zion National Park just before the storm dumped on us. Only got a couple of pics as we were all ready to be done driving for the day.

After driving 3,435 miles and driving through 9 states, we made it home.

The truck ran perfect, I really enjoyed the power of the v-8 and smoothness of the 6 speed auto trans. The projector headlights are amazing, no issues with seeing clearly at night. It was weird at first to have a new vehicle that I felt completely at home in right away. I feel like it is my truck, but with all the upgrades that I could want. Can't wait to hit some trails in this beast!

Best we got mileage wise in our H3 Alpha was 17 mpg, once, with a tailwind. With the 35s Gobi, etc it is more like 13 mpg now.
