Easy way to pop the hood with broken/bound hood release?

Went to pop the hood yesterday and the hood release lever just kept on pulling back, will not release the hood lock. Does anyone have an easy way I can release the latch? Otherwise I think I'm going to cut the cable as far back as I can so I can pull it out of the grill and give it a yank after removing the covering of course.

The latch end of the cable is right behind and above the release in the grill. I haven't tried it, but I think you could trip the latch with a long screwdriver or vise-grips without cutting anything.

Yes just look at the latch through the grill you'll see where the flathead needs to go. Slide it in I turned it counterclockwise not sure if that matters then it popped right up. Spray it with some WD-40 and you'll be good to go
