Posting and embedding pictures and video - Here's How

It is recommended that you host (store) your pictures on free sites like Photobucket or Google's Picasa, or paid sites like SmugMug, then link to those pictures using the instructions below.

To post pictures in your post

To embed YouTube and other videos in your post

Alex I know photobucket has an app for android/iPhone and I use it constantly but, to your knowledge, do these other photo hosting sites have an app? For me it makes using photobucket that much easier.

I don't know about the other sites and apps, or at least what you are looking for. I'm not a big fan of Photobucket including the speed of their pages. Picasa is a Google product so if you have Android they are or can be linked. SmugMug does have a mobile app. I pay $60/year for SmugMug for a speedier site, better layout (for me), ability to protect photos, etc.

On photobucket you can just paste in the IMG code link.

Don't know anything about Hummers, but I do speak Malamute.

Yes very true! That's one big reason that I use Photobucket.

Thanks for taking the time to write something up. Writing documentation has always been my weak spot.

So what does it mean when it says invalid file? Beside the obvious.

Not sure what you are trying to do - are you uploading a file, linking to one? If you are uploading it may be too large so try using a smaller picture

I don't have an iPad but from what I hear it does limit the ability to post pictures.

I've posted from my wife's iPad without issue before. It was from my company site (GoDaddy hosted), so don't know if that made a difference or not.

I've posted a ton of Photobucket images on this forum. Especially because I mainly do it when away from home on my iPhone. I don't own an Ipad, but it has to be even easier than on the iPhone. What kind of sucks is that it does not allow to embed Photobucket videos though.

Thought I'd add something to this old how-to thread based on a few grumblings over the past few weeks. Storage space on servers costs money - sometimes significant money. If we allowed unlimited picture sizes this forum would have to add significant advertising or create some sort of dues system. To avoid that situation we limit the size of pictures that we'll host. Currently we're hosting nearly 14,000 pictures on the forum. That does not include pictures posted here that are not hosted on our server.

    Current photo limitations
    • 0.7mb
    • No size restrictions for length and width (this is new as of today but may change if we get too large of pictures)

If the picture you are uploading is larger than that it will fail. That's why it's necessary to use something like Photobucket to host pictures. Another option, if you're on a mobile device, is to use Tapatalk. Tapatalk will host the pictures for you. Essentially that app uploads the pictures to their servers and links to them and they don't charge you (or us).

Advertisements may be in our future but I'd like to hold off on that for now. Currently we're still a small enough forum we can get by on an affordable hosting package but we're not that far away from having to jump to an expensive hosting package. Adding large pictures would make that reality immediate, and perhaps vault us up from simply expensive to annoyingly expensive.
