The first pictures look like a Silverado crossed with a Tacoma, and not in a good way. The second pick up looks like the city-duty "trucks" sold overseas. I actually think the second one looks much better as an offroad play thing. Still not a big fan of any of them but I do like the diesel motor!

I'm not a engine swapper, mechanic, motor tech kinda guy but... Any possibility this new diesel would be easier to install into an H3 than the other options out there? I would assume it's too big to fit. I don't know, I'm just throwing the idea out there even though I don't know if it's a whole new engine that no one has seen yet.

Anything is possible, only time will tell.

I have a feeling that that engine is a bit underpowered for the weight of the H3. It would definitely fit. If a V8 and an I5 fit in there, a 4 cylinder would be no prob.

I am someone who swaps motors into all sorts of (stupid) things (don't believe me, google CTS Spider) - the issue with the diesel isn't so much size, but weight. A 4bt Cummins weighs 700 lbs, so you're adding another 300 lbs to the nose (by the time you bolt on accessories). The Duramax would fit - I measured - but again, 900 lbs on the nose. To make it would would require reengineering the front to be able to put a 3/4 ton front suspension under the truck.... and oh, by the way, the front driveshaft is on the other side (just for that little bit of extra "oh damn" in the conversion). If I were to do the swap, I'd shorten a 3/4 ton running gear with a duramax already in it then mount the body on that frame.... yeah, no fun.

On the other hand, the cummins that's going in the Nissan, possibly the Toyotas, and small Dodge trucks is absolutely a candidate for the swap.... of course, street price on just the motor is $18,000, figure at least another $5,000 in making the swap; and you'll have a non-emissions certified, diesel powered, $50,000 H3 that you might be able to sell for the salvage price of the motor.... honestly, for 23,000, I can buy a hell of a lot of gasoline.... probably even put a blower on my current V8 and still come out dollars ahead when you factor gas prices and mileage differences.

I agree, I think about an engine swap all the time but I barely have 30k on my truck.. Why not just supercharge that $H!% and regear!! A lot cheaper..

I use my H3 for SAR and skiing - it's cheaper to just own another vehicle for the daily grind.

I think I would benefit huge from a re-gear with my 37's and supercharger, that's on the list for next year!

GM engeneers like "Hey, I got a great idea! Let's turn a Traverse into a pickup truck!" The Canyon looks better but only marginally and that's because it has the GMC grill. Should've kept the Hummer brand and replaced the I5 with a small turbo diesel and brought out the HX in SUV and pick-up versions.

I think it also looks kinda ugly, but with the 2.8l diesel (I think duramax?) I'd definitely be interested in its hp and TRQ potential in the future.

Yes, we keep going back and forth whether to sell it or not. Dads trying to open up another office so those funds could help, also him and I are investing some money into a range reclamation company where they "mine" for ammunition and sell it later. We have a local guy interested but if it doesn't sell to him, i think it'll just be getting more upgrades here soon, once our spending for more priorital things stops Edit: of course I should add if we sell it it will only be temporary. Wouldn't mind an alpha 1.
