Outdoor Adventure USA Amateur Radio Net

Every Thursday evening at 7:30 we do an Amateur Radio Net which covers a wide ranging series of outdoor topics, all centered around motorized recreation (4WD). For those who are not familiar with Ham Radio Nets, they are just an on-the-air round table discussion of a different topic each week. In no particular order, this is a list of some of the topics that we will be discussing in the next couple of months:

outdoor medicine
wilderness communication options
hiking
outdoor photography
first aid kit preparation
winching
firearms laws updates
ammunition reloading

Each week we have a different expert who leads the discussion, including medical doctors, lawyers, engineers, 4WD drive mechanics, and off road driving instructors. Two of our regular contributors include the owner of Dirty Parts Four Wheel Drive and the owner of Badlands Off Road Adventures.

You don't even need to be a ham to listen, and in some cases, you will not even need to be a ham to participate (but you will need to be in the presence of a licensed Ham, however, while transmitting.) With the benefits of the internet, you can listen and participate any where in the world.

If you are interested, we can suggest several ways to listen or participate.

Presently, we have direct 2 Meter and 440 repeaters in the following areas:

1. Keller Peak Repeater at 146.385, +, 146.2. Coverage:Greater Los Angeles, Riverside, San Bernardino, Orange and San Diego Counties.

2. Palomar Repeater on Palomar Mountain in San Diego at
449.300, -, 100.0 Coverage: Most of San Diego County

3. Portland Repeater, Portland Oregon, at 440.4000, Standard offset, 123.0. Coverage: Greater Portland Area.

For those who are able, you can listen to the nets via Echolink by connecting to *World* (you must use the asterisks). The use of Echolink requires a computer (or smart phone) and no radio is necessary.

Yes, there is a website. You can click here for a list of upcoming net topics. The list runs through the end of the year and we try to keep it updated so that there are at least 2-4 months of future topics always listed.

You can find a general Net discussion here.

My other net is no longer conflicting. I'll have to fire up Echolink and listen in. Thanks for the reminder!

Two options for you to consider.

1. If you use Echolink, look up "*WORLD* "IRLP REF 9251". This is an echolink node which connects directly to the Wwestern Reflector (which we use for all the repeaters that connect to the nets).

2. If you have an IRLP equipped repeater in your area, we can work with them to link up with us for the nets, if possible.

I haven't been active with HAM since I moved (Blacksheep week was the first time I dug out my radios in almost a year), so I'll definitely be on Echolink since I'm not involved with any of the local stuff. Just got to make sure I've still got it installed.
