Me, rob (H3ing) and bellvis in his jeep JK from HXC pre ran this trail today. It was great with no breakdowns or tow trucks. We did nightmare gulch then went to Dutch cleanser mine then last chance canyon. Will give a detailed report when I post up pics. Just wanted to get this started so rob had a spot to post up pictures

sounds cool.

there's a spot where the H2 would fit with slight body damage. is there a bypass for that? I was reading on the HXC site that there is a bypass that an H1 could do

I think any H1 or H2 owner should prerun it in an H3 as a passenger and decide if they want to do it. Body damage is a big possbility as its tight in there at times. Its a fun trail and tougher then LCC but nothing ridiculous. We did nightmare gulch and LCC in one day and is doable in a smaller group, a bigger group could do it but you need to keep moving and minimize stopping for pics. We did nightmare from the campground to LCC which is tougher IMO, If you did LCC then nightmare to the campground it seems easier and some of the obstacles are downhill.

We stopped to spot and take pics 6-8 times, you could do less but took it easy and explored the trail. There are also 2 optional obstacles that are fun but we didnt try them today.

Expendable, I believe so but its very off camber.

With that said here are some pics!

This part has a bypass IIRC but very off camber.

This is a good shot to show you some obstacles of how you pick your line, If your this guy go right, if your like every other vehicle on the trail today you go more towards the left.

It gets tight, an H2 may rub if you have a rack or not.

The most challenging part was probably the hillclimb into a tight turn. Both H3s and the JK had to back up and do a 3 point turn. I think this would be the toughest spot for a "T" as it you need to cut it wide to make it. The hillclimb was a bitch. Rob made it look easiest, then bellvis in the JK, and I made it look the toughest. The problem wasnt clearance, it was gearing and power. Rob had both lockers on, the 4:1 and a V8 and literally walked up it making it look like a paved hill. I tried it and struggled, you climb a ledge with your rear tires as your front tires are on very very loose dirt leaving you with no traction. I actually slid was put in a terrible position, with my tires just a few inches from dropping off the trail. Luckily some people show up (the guy with that awesome tube framed willys) some toyotas and a jeep. Those guys did some amazing spotting to get me through. They were so cool and didnt pass one hummer remark. I made it without the winch but I could of really used a 4:1 there. Bellvis tackled it last and to grasp how tough it was, hes locked front and rear on 37s with low gearing and it still took him a 2nd try with a new line and rock stacking, he made it look easy compared to me though...Rob made it without even trying.

Here is the tight turn

It was a great day and it was great meeting bellvis, he has a nice JK!

Several spots look a little too tight for an H1 or H2. If there aren't bipasses I don't see how we would fit. Lots like a fun trail though. Might have tograb the H3 from momma. :)

Great job on the write up for this. Looks extremely tight in spots for me on this trail. I wouldn't mind being a passenger next time you run it

I know they close February 1st and forgot when they open back up...it's probably online and rob may have taken a pic of the sign.

Summer may be too hot. It's crazy how the day starts and ends in terms of temperature. The desert was about 31 in the AM mid day it was about 70 and by the time night falls its going back to cold temps. Summer is probably 110+ so November to January may be ideal time.

Quite a few obstacles, ledges to climb and drop off of, rocks gardens to navigate and a lot of tight spots.

Very cool, thanks for scouting this out guys. Looking at some of the photos it's pretty clear that an H1 would have a real hard time fitting, not to mention making some of those real tight turns.

Thanks Rob! I was just about ready to ask for that. I have wanted to find the route up to the Dutch Cleanser Mines via LLC for a long time. Any chance I can get the actual GPS track from you?

Here is our recorded track./QUOTE]

You you mind if I create a page for my place to off-road map (currently down) and use your gps track and such like I did on this page http://schwarttzy.com/trails-and-parks/utah/steel-bender/ ?

I think that while we don't need any more place to get shut down for 4x4ers, I believe that by showing that we do it legally, care for the land, and show why we enjoy it that we can convince the naysayers that it is perfectly fine what we do. Also we benefit from people choosing legally 4x4 vs illegal when we know of actually places we can go.
