Shock angle placement

So ive been thinking. I have seen shocks mounted angling forwards, rearwards, straight up and down. Angled very extremely to where the tops almost touch but the bottoms are far apart. One angled forwards, the other rearwards. Im hoping this thread could explore the explanation for this and the adv/dis adv of different mounting angles/positions.

Well, I think the theory behind the one angled forward-one angled backward is to reduce axle wrap. At least that is what I have heard. Not sure on the other angles.

Well, I think the theory behind the one angled forward-one angled backward is to reduce axle wrap. At least that is what I have heard. Not sure on the other angles.

More specifically, it supresses axle hop. The thick bottom overload prevents axle wrap. Thats why it's a bad idea to remove it unless you add an anti-wrap bar of some kind.
