hi all. Many of you know me and my truck from other forums or runs here in the So Cal area. Thought I'd start a thread showing some of the truck stuff I have been up to lately. It's not as much as I would like to have gotten done, but my work schedule is crazy.

I just got the truck back a week or two ago from Jason Heard's fab shop, The GMR, in Huntington Beach. I finally decided to do what I should have done in the first place and get serious shock mounts, serious shocks and limit straps. The reason I need all this nonsense is that I ditched my stock shocks a springs a few years back for airbags. I wanted a smoother ride on, and especially off road as well as height adjustability for ground clearance off road and parking in garages around town. I had to relocate the shocks to the outside of the a-arms to make room for the bags. The stock shocks are also the limiting factor for the suspension's compression/extension, so I had to add limit straps to keep everything close to stock. Sounds simple eh? Well, like I said I should have just bit the bullet and done it right the first time 4 years ago!

Anyways...I will be posting more pics but to get started, I just ran out and snapped a few of the truck with the new suspension set-up. I made some quick ground clearance measurements, at full height I had 23.5 inches at the front and rear crossmembers. The factory ucp hangs down about 1.5 inches below the crossmembers and I'll lose another inch running at 15 to 20 psi, but 21 inches is still very respectable, especially on "small" tires like the 39.5's! With my 2 inch body lift, my rockers would be at 23 inches in the afore mention 15 to 20 psi scenario.

Ron

funny -- so many guys are running 42's and bigger now...even race trucks are using 39's now! I guess I have succeeded on my long journey to the middle, striving for mediocrity all the way.

Haven't been to Rowher in yrs. I used to start back by the resevoir off Bouquet Canyon rd. Looks like the rocks are a practice area like Hungry Valley? Never aeen the ones there.

The back side has the nice hillclimbs, once you get to the top there is a optional rock obstacle, its not like the one in the video, this one is a lot tamer and would be good to test out the suspension. I ran that obstacle at the top on 35's in an H3. You shouldnt have issues at all lol. If you end up heading back down the front side towards the entrance there is the big rock area in the video. There is some other stuff near it to flex on but nothing that extreme, anything under 38's seems like that one obstacle would eat you alive. If you guys have any issues or breakdowns and need a garage to fix anything I am local I will PM you my #. Lets just hope GMR did a good job and there will be no need for fixing:)

thanks -- you too! And thanks for stopping on the 330. My blower motor is on it's last leg and was venting a bit of smoke!

I finally had the time to go visit Hummer Dan to get my new step rockers installed. They are nice! I was a bit nervouse adding another 2" of width to the truck but I am pretty sure the advantages of having that step will outweigh the disadvantage of being that much wider! Here is a shot of the new rockers installed and another of Dan and his daughter testing them out:

I am gonna hold onto them for a bit to make sure these are working for me. Dave and my friend Eric have expressed interest.
