Just back today from a 3,000 Mile trip. Main reason was motor racing in Bathurst & Adelaide but had some planned excursions through Northen Victoria, Broken Hill, Burke etc. (and some unplanned ones also due to the major floods here!!!!)

Anyhow thought I would share some photos...............

I call this first collection "Entomology"

Some of them made it home relatively intact (amazed)......... Seems the Big ones go for the engine and the little ones love my Gobi & Lightforce Lights !!!!!

I did a similar trip in my TJ. Melbourne to Broken Hill. Did the Outback Challenge amd ending in Silverton. Once done we went Birdsville, crossed the Simpson to Ayres Rock. From there down to Coober Pedy, Adelaide, and back to Melbourne. Coober Pedy was very freaky. Felt like the old wild west when it was discovered for the first time. We had something stuck on our front bumper. Only it was red and furry. ;) What an amazing country you guys have down under.

There goes $30 at Carlovers! You managed to skirt the floods OK?

Fortunately I have a waterblaster at home.

Also fortunate I went the way I went, stayed out of trouble mostly with the floods and weather was good.

Broke another Fox Shock (front LHS) on the way down meant I had to detour from my original journey to get to ADL by shortest route from Young (drove 1200 Km (745 Miles) on 3 shocks made me a little sea sick at times)

Was still keen to go via Broken Hill & Charleville on the way back. With the roads closed had to go via Wentworth & Nyngan. Here is a rough map of the Floods & the Route I took

Looks like quite a few of the little critters elected to commit suicide on the front of your truck. When the big juicy ones get baked on for a few days they get hard to remove.

Hey Recon......... Sounds like a great trip you had.............. I loved Silverton also and had the same comment ......... It really does feel like the Old Wild West....... They still have the horse posts but these days they use them to tie their Camels them (local camel tour operator). I will post some photos when I go through them as I never realised this is where they filmed some classic movies like Mad Max (I think the USA called it Road Warrior with Mel Gibson). Just past Silverton was the Mundi Mundi Plains which was like the end of the earth (completely flat as far as the eye could see)

how was the racing chook?
i missed it on the tv as my son was racing the dirt squirter

Did the Bathurst 12hr and it was great, lead changing all the time, really exciting. They broadcast the last 90mins live on "Speed TV" but there is sure to be a highlights package broadcast soon. http://www.bathurst12hour.com.au
Clipsal V8's in Adelaide were great also. Saturday race was really exciting but Sunday was pretty preditable with not many lead changes etc. Their website has a highlights package you can view online. (also check out the Murphy/Webb Crash video link as it was epic) http://www.v8supercars.com.au/

Just outside Silverton is the Mundi Mundi Plains (really green with the recent rains which has delayed the filming of Mad Max 4 as per the last youtube link above)

Here are some photos of the flood waters we crossed. This is "Vision Way" just south of Bourke.

I have added some Google Maps Images to give my photos some context.

We detoured 200 Miles (Cobar to Bourke via Nyngan) to get on the Mitchell Highway as Police said it was our only way through.

They let me & the Truck in front through under escort (an hour later the road was completely closed to all vehicles)
