4.88 or 5.13

What say you guys. I know people have been using 4.88 with 37 and 38 tires and seem happy with them. After playing around with gear calculators, I’m thinking going 5.13. Current relevant mods are 37 tires, long tube headers, hi flow cats, magnanflow exhaust, air doc with hi flow filter, Diablo 91 octane tune. I think the 5.13’s would work better with my off-road trailer were I could pull in overdrive. Trailer weighs between 2500 and 3000 depending on load out. So what do you guys think

5.13 would sure help with towing but how often do you? The highway rpms would be too highnin dauly driving for 37s.
4.88-5.13 is good with 40s too, 4.56 is good with 37s on a stock H2

I guess my thought is that if I went 5.13 I could tow in 4th which would be lower rpms than if I went with 4.88 and had to tow in 3rd. Also I think 4.56 with 37’s bring me back to basically stock performance but honestly I think stock performance is pretty underwhelming

Theory wise 4.38 is the gearing to bring back stock gearing so 4.56 is an inprovement.
Just keep in mind with 5.13s you will be hitting 2500 rpms at 70 mph instead of 2000 rpms now. Its great towing but if you do get to 80 mph thats 3K rpms

You know what, just go 5.13s! You can always use it to justify 40s in the future incase you have second thoughts

Yeah that’s why I keep thinking 5.13. Right now I can’t tow in 4th so with 4.10 in 3rd I’m already a little higher in rpms than if I just go 5.13.
