HELP! How to remove captive nut on front diff?

Searched a few threads but couldn't find an answer

So I'm in the middle of replacing the front cross member with a Preferred Chassis upgraded cross member and I can't figure out how to get the captive nut off of the diff so I can use the new, longer bolt. I am tying to avoid dropping the front diff. I can feel the plate the nut is attached to move around but it feels like there is a pin the it's attached to. Is the nut plate like a clip that gets pushed around that in or does the pin come out somehow?

I have a funeral to go to tomorrow afternoon so I really need to get it buttoned up in the morning.

Thanks

IIRC its held on with a small allen wrench screw. You should be able to feel it with your finger if you can't see it. No clue what size it is however.

EDIT: looks like its a torx driver that you need not an allen wrench, based off of the photo.
