I had to swap the water pump on my mom’s Envoy, but this would be relevant to the i5 as well. I just used a doubled-up piece of steel hanging strap. I’ve also heard it called plumber’s strap. YMMV but it’s cheap and worked for me. I pulled one of the water pump pulley bolts and ran it through one end of this and back into the pulley. The other end went under a 10mm bolt up next to the battery.

If I remember right, if you get the wrenches from the parts store loan-a-tool, the ones listed for the H3 don't fit. The set for a 90s full size Bronco worked perfect. This was at AutoZone a few years back, but make sure you double check before you get home and have to make a second trip. Your strap is a great idea.
