RCV's are known for making a clicking noise because of the cage design. They have started clearancing them to get rid of the noise. But you are still limited by the diameter of the axle and number of splines.

Why does every U4 car and rock bouncer use RCVs?

Dave is always the level headed one who brings the right advice.

As I get older and take on more responsibilities I am having less time.... I’m learning that in 2019 and it sucks! Lol but I do have more money to spend! Which is fun...

It sucked I couldn’t make it to Moab this year. Hopefully I can hit the trails with you soon Dave and your right, I have had more fun on wheeling trips with the right people then the right trails.

On a unrelated but positive note to Dave since I’m sure he will chuckle at this...I’m moving to a state that has good rock crawling and doesn’t cater to people who choose to be homeless and get clean injection needles paid for by the taxpayer :)

Well Chris welcome to grown up’s life.
(More money and less free time)

And like I said many times before
I do most of my wrenching on maintenance and repair. I do ALL electrical hookups.
But when it comes to HD stuff it’s beyond my pay grade.
Investing into tooling, R&D, etc. takes too much time vs setting a side $$ to pay someone else.

And just like Dave said, each build it’s a compromise. Each of my rigs was build for a specific function.
H2 long distance family camping with towing in mind
H3T A. For long over-landing off-road trips
JK short trips
YJ is strictly rock crawling

As I stated before I like the build, but I can’t understand argument of using D44 vs D60.
Difference in price can’t be that much.
But it will be probably twice as strong.

And looking at some new posts on other tread when they are talking $5-12k for d44 front end only, 13k for well build d60 combo doesn’t seem that outrageous anymore.

Cal has its own dumb issues and we have been traveling for past few years for a possible relocation into 4 seasons.

So far I can’t find anything suitable
I am in service industry and to make good
$$ I need lots of mid/hi-mid income people.

We’ll be traveling up east coast after this summer from Carolinas north to see some more.
Possibly doing Drummond island off-road park on the way back

Well my 5 to 12K guess is a dana 44 built, installed, with a spring over rear axle conversion.

Your 13K set of axles is not installed. That is a big price difference.

For my D70 I got the housing for free, D60 outers and axle shafts for 300 bucks, spent 1k on locker, let’s say 500 on brackets, 500 on gears/install kit, 500ish for ABS setup then my time which is becoming more valuable but at the same time I do enjoy it. So for under 4K I had a Dana 70 front axle with D60 outers, factory Chevy 60 length shafts in case I need a spare and the locker side gears can he swapped to 40 spline if I ever need to.

As for California, I love it. The state is BEAUTIFUL, it has everything you can ever imagine from hiking, rock crawling, rocks, sand, mud, every type of scenery and terrain, mtns, snow, sun, beach, etc. I would live there forever. Honestly I had no plans to leave even though it is run in a bat**** crazy way. Work offered an opportunity to grow and it was in a place I still really like and CAers are going there but in the end we all gotta go where the money is and CA and NY are places like that.

I know we banter back and forth and I play devil’s advocate so people don’t think they have to spend a ton of money to get into the SAS game. It did cost me more long term but I have the funds now that I didn’t have years ago. It got me in the game.

Your builds are great and I by no means disrespect your style or builds or funds. What I do love about off-roading is there are 183824 ways to skin a cat.

Glad to see you getting out of California. Screwed up liberal policies, anti-business atmosphere, high taxes....you won't miss that 13% state income tax. Loved the mountains and the desert but I can visit anytime I want and not have to pay the California tab for living there. I am more than happy to drive to Moab to wheel rather than live in Cali. Katemcy Rocks and K2 offer as good a rock crawling adventure as I need. Even Marble Falls has a few trails that will keep you excited. Growing up has its challenges, as you will learn. The good thing is that the higher income offsets a lot of those challenges. The bad news is that you lose much of your time to enjoy it. I am too driven to just sit back and do nothing or do less than my best. Until I retire completely my days/years will be full. I do have a plan/date set and once I quit working I will be on the sidelines for good and then I will be wearing out the trails around the country, hunting all over the country and cashing dividend checks.

Can't wait to wheel with you again Chris. Pritchett Canyon has our name on it.

I had to buy an RV to make traveling easier.
The problem is with in 2hr radius we have ~30 mil people
So business is great but living is crowded.
I need to find someplace like OC to move.

Ha, ha. Those are great bar-stool comments to throw out and look 'cool', but at the same time incredibly ignorant given the overall economic metrics. Even though I don't live anywhere near CA they lead in so many economic and lifestyle metrics... Compare it to low wage, low tax, low education ...low re-investment states. But to each is own. Carry on brutha!!

Nice D70 work BTW

Well I’ve been here for for ~30 years now. I can’t comment on any other place but CA only got a lot more expensive and crowded. Plus our “leaders” are transitioning into socialism bordering with communism.
At same time they are taxing crap load out of
of multimillionaires and that is ~30% of CA budget.
If those guys move CA will collapse in few years.

I lived in Cali for 20 years and ran a $400,000,000.00 a year company. I think I am fairly well educated on California business environment, taxes, education, etc. We used to have over 500 employees in California. There are 3 now. Guess why? High taxes, falling educational environment, poor business environment with no real hope for improvement. We transferred a couple in from Texas to Irvine, CA. Their daughter spent most of the first year she was there waiting for the local curriculum to catch to where she was in Houston, TX. Ever heard of the " dance of the lemons ". If not you have no idea about California public schools.
