Very slight rub at full lock, which is no more rubbing than when I had 37s. The wheels are 18" x 9" and the 38s are 38x13.5s, which IMO are the perfect size on an H2. I do have a 2" coil spacer in the rear and torsion keys up front, so that also helps. As far as the gearing, I probably should have went to 4.88s, but the 4.56 do fine, way better than 4:10s, which was very sluggish.

A few people have floated the idea of doing a solid axle swap using the AAM 925 axle from 03+ dodge rams 2500 trucks. It's basically the solid axle version of the H2's front axle. The electronics are the same.

Yes, it would flex better and not break so easily but it wouldn't ride as nice on the road.

Thats a BS I am running 20x12s with 38/15.5 for years now ( sometimes with trailer on same wheels)never had any issues on or off road. They do look much better vs. SMALL 18s. And I do off-road more that 80% of people on this forum.

I've never done it, so I'm not sure. It's expensive, though. solid axle swaps can range from $5,000 for a simple one to $20,000+ if they're very complex.

I think 4.56s are perfect for 37s and 4.88s are perfect for 38s. I am still running 4.56s with 38s and its a bit sluggish, but still plenty of power when I need it. I still tow occasionally an am not quite ready to go to 4.88s. If you plan on going to 40s I would go straight to 5.13s, possibly even 5.38s if you don't tow anything.

Here are a couple of quick gear ratio calculations for you.

    For stock tires and gears;

    (4.10 x 60mph x 336)/ 33.6 inches = 2460 rpm 3rd gear
    2460 x 0.696 (overdrive) = 1712 rpm

    For 37s and 4.56
    (4.56 x 60 mph x 336)/ 37 inches = 2485 rpm 3rd gear
    2485 x 0.696 (overdrive) = 1729 rpm

    For 38s and 4.88s
    (4.88 x 60 mph x 336)/ 38 inches = 2589 rpm 3rd gear
    2589 X 0.696 (overdrive) = 1802 rpm

For 40s and 4.88s (I personally think this will feel bit sluggish because of the added weight of the 40s)
    (4.88 x 60 mph x 336)/ 40 inches = 2460 rpm 3rd gear
    2460 X 0.696 (overdrive) = 1712 rpm

    For 40s with 5.13s
    (5.13 x 60 mph x 336)/ 40 inches = 2586 rpm 3rd gear
    2586 x 0.696 (overdrive) = 1800 rpm

    For 40s with 5.38s
    (5.38 x 60 mph x 336)/ 40 inches = 2711 rpm 3rd gear
    2711 x 0.696 (overdrive) = 1887 rpm

I have spent about $8,000 on parts for an H3 SAS and I am still not finished gathering parts. If your going to do a SAS to an H2 like how another guy did Dynatrec 60 front and 80 rear get ready to drop a good $30k plus if someone else is doing the work. Just my guess but hopefully he will chime in with some idea what he spent at ORE. Torq will charge $10k for each axle without suspension parts but their 14 bolt is comparable to Dana 80's front and rear.

It was a good chunk of money. But I had no budget to speak of. Custom 3/4 link suspension, Dana 60/80 with all of upgrades possible, competition racing suspension coilovers and atlas TC. Then I had to do custom exhaust and 2 front driveshafts ( one for crawling and second for hi speed with limiting straps), rear was split in half with carrier bearing to increase break over angle. Airbags in the rear to level out while towing. Best thing was f450 front brakes, first time I stepped on them I thought I will do a "stoppie" it is that much better compear to OEM bs.
If u planing to rockcrawl with decent size tires (37"+)don't waist your time with dana44.

Plus I am not Chris, I don't like doing same things more that once.

This really should be in the H3 area but I will give it a shot if no one minds: I will start by giving the same advice I was given from CJ at Thorparts; wheel with what you have and then you learn what to upgrade and if you even need to upgrade. From my limited wheeling I have never really had the amount of broken axle parts as some guys that take the H3 to its limits ie: 06H3. Watch some of his video's and you will see why he went to a SAS Dana 44 in the front. Even that didn't hold up to his wheeling and he has now decked it to the 9's with RCV shafts etc. Head out with some hummer buddies here and you will get tons of advice. You will also be very surprised at how capable the H3 is right from the start even with a good set of 33" tires and some skid plates. You run in mud I am assuming down there so a new front greasable drive shaft is far better than the OEM mud catcher.

For me I like big tires, I have 35" Pitbull Rockers and I keep dreaming of 37's or even their 39.5 Bias. I know that I can't regear better than 4.56 and that will not cut it with the 3.7L that I currently run. If you SAS you can do a nice 5.13 or 5.38 gear and run 37" tires all day long.
