When we (SoCal group) were up in Last Chance Canyon a few weeks ago, Owlxxx informed me that Nightmare Gulch had been close indefinately. This is really sad news since this trial is still on my bucket list. I happen so to find the following post over at Wayalife this morning:

Update on Nightmare Gulch! The OHMVR Division of California Parks & Recreation sent out trail experts to examine Nightmare Gulch. Conclusion is that the trail is sustainable, but does require repairs. California Parks & Recreation is not able to complete any repairs until a Travel Management Plan has been completed for the Red Rock Canyon State Park. We need to make our voices heard that we WANT this travel mgmt. plan completed so repairs may proceed on Nightmare Gulch. We are asking all our members and the OHV community to call the new Sector Superintendent for Tehachapi District, Kathy Weatherman, to voice your concerns. (661) 724-1206 is the number for the Tehachapi Sector. Please call and let her know we want the travel mgmt. plan for Red Rock Canyon State Park completed ASAP so repairs can be made to Nightmare Gulch!! We need at least 20 to 30 individual calls made every month until they move forward with the Travel Mgmt Plan. If we don't make noise no progress will be made!!

This update is from Linda at CORVA bottom line we need to call it's been almost a year since the State closed Nightmare so I am asking for help to make noise about this closure and get this trail open we have a phone number, I thank you in advance for any help and to pass on to your friends

I'll make a call. Rob and I ran that trail before. It's fun. H3s fit H2 and H1s might not. Let's all make the calls so one day we can run it.

Might also consider joining CORVA. Repairs had to be made in LCC after slobs cut fencing and caused substantial damage. I'll be calling.

Last chance canyon is on the chopping block. They've already installed the gates at the camp, with a sign with a detour marked.
