Have some pics left over from the recent articles I have done which I thought might still be of interest.

I had planned to travel the Kidson Track from Well 33 on the Canning Stock Route to Eighty Mile Beach on the Western Australian coast between Pt Headland and Broome. The advice from the Well 33 end was that part of the track had be graded for a new mining venture and was apparently closed at the top end. Advice was to enjoy as much was was left and deal with the mining guys if and when needed on the basis of once you are on the track, what are they going to do!

A few salt lakes...

Plenty of camel digs where they dig large cavities to lie in....not to be hit at speed as I busted a bead on one later in the trip...

A bit after this I came across a "Road Closed" sign...so much for the local intel at well 33. Being the law abiding citizen that I am, I accidentally tripped over the sign which landed face down in a big hole just off the road so apparently it was OK to continue....

200kms further on I came across a site camp..it was Saturday afternoon and the boys were sitting around having a beer, certainly not expecting some idiot in a Defender to come along. As I got close one of them jumped up from his seat and started waving his arms wildly in the air...I thought...Waht a friendly bloke....so I waved back at him and kept driving.

Soon after Karma hit in the form of a bird...

Luckily I could still see enough and I was only 300kms from the end of the track although it turned out I then had to drive another 500kms to Karratha to get it fixed.

Once I could see again I headed off into the Pilbara where there were some magnificent ranges

I visited The Surveyor Generals Corner, the point where Western Australia, South Australia amnd Northern Territory collide. It was the last corner on my list to do and the most remote and difficult to get to.

Technically you are supposed to pay the local Indigenous family $100 plus $20 per person to escort you. One of the benefits of getting older is selective memory loss and so it was that my navigator had me at the post before I knew it.....

Little know fact is that when the corner was re-surveyed with more modern equipment in the 60's they couldn't get it to connect so there are actually 2 posts, 100m apart and the "corner" is in fact a dog leg!

Beautiful country out here

The locals aren't too bright and generally don't carry spare wheels so when they get a flat, they just run it until it is the REALLY flat...flat as in the rim, not just the tyre...

Some of the bush was on fire

This used to be Ayres Rock before we handed back to the locals, now of course it is Ularu...this was taken from 10kms away

That about wraps it up. As I get time I'll post up some the tracks I did as well. Cheers

Thanks Nugget. Always appreciate your pictures and stories. We'd give you some gingko biloba to help with that memory loss but I think the travels would be so much less interesting! :)
