Wife wanted a Wrangler.....

Just bringing up conversation here. No major questions to ask. Get your feedback on other rigs you've owned.

Story is, somehow the el-wife-y got the idea of wanting a Wrangler. At first I thought she wanted to get another Grand Cherokee.... which I was all for (Overland Summit!). Apparently she got the Wrangler bug. Ok fine. Found a few good ones on the interwebs. Flew out to LA (work trip ...wink) and bought a nice clean (used) '15 Sahara JKU (4-door). Not new but good enough for summer cruising. Not going to buy a WI rusted piece of crap. I looked at a couple JK's locally and man they start to rust! One we got, ..All the options, leather, subwoofer, top stereo, 3" AEV lift and aftermarket wheels/tires. Nice rig for 120k mi. That yr JK has a few less electronic nannies which I liked ...since I'll be maintaining it. We had some Rubicon's on the look-see list, but this was nicer and the eLSD is probably all we REALLY need for the dry-pavement driving it'll see most. The one we bought even came with a couple bullet holes (not-so-good part of town ...easy to fix). Drove er back 2300 miles ....took the slow route stayed in Vegas ....Moab for a few days, and CO too. Black Hills. That was all this past summer. We've been going to Moab since the early 90's so we know the trails we like to off-road/hike, etc.

Let me say, after driving a Jeep Wrangler all summer, it really makes ya appreciate how nice the H3 actually is! I'm not hating on Jeeps b/c I've owned quite a few (Cherokee's, older solid axle Grand Cherokee's), and still own a couple. I've rented/driven a few brand new Jeeps too, usually Grand Cherokee's ....but also a 2025 Rubicon last summer I drove for several days. I also test drove a few Bronco's she didn't want a Bronco. I probably would have went with a Bronco myself if they had a legit top, or at least a legit removable top (What is Ford waiting for??!!).

But anywhooo.....comparing to the Wrangler, the H3 is MUCH more comfortable to drive (ours has LUX & Adv Pkgs), and off-road (ours is pretty much stock). You don't have any of that annoying 'drumming' you constantly get inside the Jeep going down the highway. It's like riding inside of a giant subwoofer! H3 handling and steering is much nicer, Smoother riding, The rear door is better executed. It's wider inside. I like the seating position better. Monsoon stereo still holds it's own (better than the Jeep Alpine). I personally think the H3's look 'cooler'. And my (not extreme) off-roading in Moab, Colorado and other trails ...the H3 did did great. She's not suggesting we part with it, but it's DEFINITELY not going anywhere.

I know Wranglers have their own Party tricks that only they can do. I'm enjoying the Wrangler we bought, don't get me wrong, ...but every time I drive the H3 it gives me greater appreciation how GM got so many things right, on them.

What are your thoughts comparing your H3 to other rigs you own or have owned?

I owned a silver jeep 06 tj x. I was never so happy to get away from a vehicle lol.
Promptly purchased used 07 h3 in 2011. Never doubted. Then purchased a 2001 jeep cherokee xj, leather, heated seats, solid axles etc.. replaced damn near everything 😌 😆. Still got the 01 xj rust and all.
Just recently purchased 08 h3. Base model, NO sun roof (on purpose) no leaks from sunroof drains. Have now worked tirelessly to repair it and update.
We also had an 06 lux unit h3. It was dead after hitting dear on Xmas eve.

Funny thing seller of 08 h3 asked " why do you have such a hardon for Hummer H3's?" My reply idk there just what I like and they just freaking work.

The 06 tj x worked OK but lacked refinement and quality control was appalling. 500 miles in the rear shock leaked all fluid out and it was down hill from there.

I’ve had a YJ, a TJ and a plethora of XJs. Jeeps do Jeep things great and have ridiculous amount of support and parts available but there’s something about the H3. I get a lot of flack from the in-laws who all have Jeeps (5 & counting). It really gets them going when they have $100k into their rigs but my H3 gets attention from others on the trails and around town. It’s my second one (upgraded to an Alpha) and like others on here that have beat me to the punch, I hope to have an H3T Alpha with a snug-top one day that I’ll keep mild’ish for hauling the adventure trailer and regular tasks.

Such a similar story (without the cool side-trips). My wife wanted a grand cherokee overland and probably looked at 100 of them. She really wanted another xj, since we've had about 7 between us, but i wanted her to get something a bit newer. I figured for the price of a '15 overland you could get a nice, low milage h3 easily if you could find one. There wasn't any around for a long time, but she stumble upon an extra nice h3t that had been in storage for 2 years. 123000 km = about 70,000 miles. Came with insane amounts of extras. I have the same truck with double the mileage and hers feels like a Cadillac comparatively.

I love those Samurai, with little mods only, they bring you anywhere and at places, that i never thought it will fit ;) no lockers, just a full 2" lift, 30" MTs and 4.16 transfer case , and a good winch

What about the Suzuki Jimni's? Ever own one of them? Seems like a more refined version of the Sami?

Nice to hear your guys' stories!! Yeah, the H3 to me is about the right size. Not too big like a Tahoe, or small like a Jeep. I have a buddy who thinks Wrangler's are the top dog. One day, while we were looking over my H3 and I was going over my objective good's and Bad's between the Wrangler & H3, I'm like, "Well, why don't we just get in and you take it for a drive. You won't 'hate' on it after you've driven it." Man, I could NOT get him into the H3. LOL. He just didn't want to drive it. Which seemed strange to me.

Mine needs a new frame ...that's the next thing I need to figure out. Engine is getting tired too. Might be getting time for me to go buy a nice rust-free one like you guys have. I don't mind the 3.7 for DD. I have full size trucks for hauling duties.

Best vehicle hands down was my Suzuki Swift Lol! That was a little tank. It towed, carried a carrier for snow blowers, mowers took a heck of a beating and got 50+ miles to gallon on interstate. It was really something. The seats were cheap, the interior was cheap feeling the sheet metal felt wafer thin but damn that vehicle could go and go. 113K+ miles and then died in front of my childhood home. Then I walked into my garage and got my brand new 06 jeep tj and kept going lol! And then as I said pulled that right into local used dealership and traded and bought my Used 07 H3 for more than the tj brand new.
