3.7l timing

Hello I own a 2008 h3 3.7l. I was wondering if any one knows how much the timing should shift back and forth at idle mine seems to bounce from about 4° to 10° at idle. Was wondering if this is normal or maybe time for a new timing chain and tensioner. Thank you for any info you might have.

I assume you are watching ignition timing on a scangauge or other scanner. Ignition timing is completely different and unrelated to cam timing and the timing chain.

You are right it's the ignition timing sorry don't know what I was thinking but does that kind of fluctuations seem normal for this engine or might there be something off some where

Unless it's throwing a code I wouldn't worry about it. The computer is pretty smart.
